virtual pong game reviews
Okay, so today I was messing around with this thing called a virtual pong game. It’s like table tennis but without the actual table and ball. Sounds weird, right? Well, I got my hands on one of these sets, the Sharper Image Virtual Space Ping Pong Game, and decided to give it a whirl.
First off, I unboxed it. Inside, there’s this base unit thingy and two paddles that look like they’re straight out of a sci-fi movie. No physical ball, which already made me curious. The base unit is supposed to project a “ball” using some infrared light, and the paddles, or “IR Emitter Rackets” as they call them, are how you hit this virtual ball back and forth.
I set it up, which was pretty straightforward. You just put the base unit on a table or something, turn it on, and it shoots out this red dot that’s supposed to be the ball. I grabbed a paddle, and my buddy took the other one. We started playing, and honestly, it felt a bit odd at first. You’re swinging at a light, not a real ball, so the whole hand-eye coordination thing felt a bit off. But we kept at it.
The game has these built-in sound effects that are supposed to make it feel more like real table tennis. They do add to the experience, but it’s not quite the same. We played for a good hour, trying to get a feel for it. The “ball” moves pretty fast, and you have to be quick with the paddles.
Here’s what I noticed after playing:

- Reaction Time: You really have to be on your toes. That little light moves quickly!
- Space: You need a decent amount of space to move around. We were bumping into furniture at first.
- Fun Factor: It’s definitely fun, especially if you’re into something different. Not exactly like real table tennis, but it has its own charm.
My Verdict
So, would I recommend it? Yeah, I think so. It’s a fun little gadget, especially if you’re bored with the usual stuff. It’s not going to replace real table tennis, but it’s a cool thing to have for parties or just to mess around with friends. Plus, it’s only like 40 bucks, so it’s not a huge investment. If you’re into techy toys or just looking for a new way to have some fun, give it a shot. It’s a different experience, and sometimes, different is good.
I also checked out some other virtual reality ping pong games, like Eleven Table Tennis. That one’s a whole different level since it’s in VR, but it got me thinking about how these games are evolving. It’s pretty cool to see how technology is changing the way we play these classic games. Maybe one day we’ll all be playing virtual sports in our living rooms!
In the end, it was a fun day of trying something new. I enjoyed the virtual pong game, and it was cool to see how it all worked. Definitely a good way to kill some time and have a few laughs.
