the inheritance games review
Alright, alright, let me tell ya ’bout this book, “The Inheritance Games,” you know? It’s a real page-turner, I tell ya. Kept me up later than I shoulda been, that’s for sure. This young gal, Avery somethin’-or-other, she’s got nothin’, see? Her mama’s gone, and her daddy, well, he ain’t been around in ages. Just poof, disappeared like a fart in the wind.
So, there she is, livin’ hand-to-mouth, I reckon, and then BAM! Outta nowhere, she gets this crazy inheritance. Not just a little bit of money, mind you, but a whole dang fortune from some fella she never even heard of. This Hawthorne fella, rich as Croesus they say. Why’d he leave all his money to her? That’s the big question, ain’t it? Kept me guessin’ the whole time, I swear.
Now, these Hawthorne folks, they ain’t exactly thrilled ’bout Avery showin’ up. They got their own ideas about who shoulda got the money, you see. Bunch of ’em, all grandsons and such, good-lookin’ boys too, from what I hear. They’re all competitive as heck, always tryin’ to one-up each other. Like a bunch of roosters in a henhouse, always peckin’ and squawkin’. The book says they love winnin’ more than anything. And they sure do make things interestin’ for Avery.
- Kept me on the edge of my seat.
- Lots of twists and turns, like a country road.
- Family drama, oh boy, enough to make your head spin.
This Jennifer Barnes lady, she sure knows how to write a story. She makes you feel like you’re right there with Avery, tryin’ to figure out all the puzzles and secrets. ‘Cause there’s secrets, alright? Lots of ’em. Hidden rooms, coded messages, the whole shebang. It’s like one of them mystery shows on the TV, but better, ’cause you get to use your own brain to figure things out. And let me tell ya, that Avery girl is somethin’ else. Smart as a whip, she is. Don’t let nothin’ get past her. She’s gotta be, with all them Hawthornes tryin’ to outsmart her.
Now, some folks might be lookin’ for some steamy stuff in their books, but this ain’t one of them. Ain’t no spice, as the youngsters say. A few kisses here and there, but nothin’ to make you blush. It’s more about the mystery and the puzzles and the family drama. Which is just fine by me, let me tell ya. I ain’t got no time for that lovey-dovey nonsense. Give me a good mystery any day.

There ain’t much violence either. It ain’t that kind of book. It’s more about the mind games, you see? Who’s tellin’ the truth, who’s lyin’, who’s got the upper hand. That’s what makes it so darn interestin’. And let me tell ya, there’s plenty of suspense. I was holdin’ my breath half the time, waitin’ to see what was gonna happen next. It’s like watchin’ a movie, only better, ’cause you can see it all playin’ out in your head. They also call it YA novel , I guess that just means young people read it, but this old lady liked it just fine!
So, if you’re lookin’ for a good book to read, somethin’ to keep you entertained and guessin’, then I reckon you should give “The Inheritance Games” a try. It ain’t perfect, mind you. Nothin’ in this world is. But it’s a darn good story, and that’s all that matters, ain’t it? It’s the first of a whole bunch of books, too. A whole series, they call it. So, if you like this one, you got plenty more to keep ya busy. And let me tell ya, I’m plannin’ on readin’ ’em all. This Jennifer Lynn Barnes, she’s got a new fan, that’s for sure.
This “Avery Kylie Grambs” goes on a real adventure and the author “Jennifer Barnes” sure did a good job making it exciting. I tell you what, if I was younger I might even want to be in Avery’s shoes even if it was a bit dangerous.
So there you have it. My two cents on “The Inheritance Games.” Go on and read it, you might just like it. It’s a real page-turner, full of excitement and mystery, with family secrets galore. What more could you want?
