the hating game review

Alright, so I watched this movie, “The Hating Game,” right? Don’t ask me how I found it, one of them young’uns was watchin’ it on that computery box thing. Anyways, this movie, it’s about these two folks, Lucy and Joshua. They work together, see, and lemme tell ya, they ain’t exactly fond of each other. Not one bit.

Now, Lucy, she’s this bubbly sort, always wearin’ bright colors and chatterin’ away. Joshua, he’s the opposite. All serious and buttoned-up, like he swallowed a stick or somethin’. They’re always bickerin’ and snappin’ at each other, you know the type. Always competin’, always tryin’ to one-up the other. It’s like watchin’ two roosters in a henhouse, all puffed up and ready to fight.

They got this game they play, this “hating game,” where they try to get under each other’s skin. Silly, if you ask me, but that’s what they do. They play pranks, they make snide remarks, they just generally annoy the heck outta each other. You’d think they’d just quit their jobs or somethin’, but no, they keep at it.

  • They’re always arguin’, that’s for sure.
  • And they both want that same promotion, which don’t help matters none.
  • But, you know, there’s somethin’ else there, underneath all that hatin’. You can see it, even if they can’t.

The whole thing started, I guess, after this company paintball thing went sideways. Don’t ask me the details, it was somethin’ about a promotion and them bein’ competitive. Anyways, that’s when the hatin’ really kicked into high gear.

Now, I ain’t gonna spoil the whole thing for ya, but you can probably guess what happens. All that hatin’, it ain’t real, see? It’s just a way for them to hide how they really feel. Deep down, they actually like each other. It’s as plain as the nose on your face, though it takes them a good long while to figure it out. They’re like two stubborn mules, diggin’ in their heels and refusin’ to budge.

The actors, they do a pretty good job. That Lucy gal, she’s real cute and perky, and that Joshua fella, he’s handsome enough, I guess, once he cracks a smile. They got good chemistry, that’s what they call it. You believe they actually hate each other at first, and then you believe they actually like each other later on. That’s important, you know, for a movie like this.

I heard tell that this movie was based on a book. Can you believe it? Somebody wrote a whole book about two people hatin’ each other. Seems like a waste of time to me, but what do I know? I reckon folks like readin’ about that kinda stuff, though. Love and hate, they’re two sides of the same coin, I always say. And I’ve seen a lot of coins in my day, let me tell you.

They released this movie a while back, in 2021, and it wasn’t in theaters everywhere. You could watch it on them “VOD platforms” they talk about. Fancy names for things these days. And most folks who saw it, they liked it. Said it was well-written and well-acted, and that it was a good movie for the holidays. I can see that, I guess. It’s kinda sweet and heartwarming, once you get past all the bickerin’.

Oh, and there was some drama with the actors, I heard. Seems like the fella they originally wanted to play Joshua, he couldn’t do it. So they got another fella instead. These Hollywood types, always changin’ their minds. But it all worked out in the end, I reckon. The movie turned out just fine.

So, would I recommend this “Hating Game” movie? Well, I guess so. It ain’t gonna change your life or nothin’, but it’s a decent enough way to pass a couple of hours. It’s funny in parts, it’s sweet in parts, and it’s got a happy ending. And sometimes, that’s all you need, you know? Just a little bit of sweetness in this old world. So go on, give it a watch. You might just like it, even if you ain’t a fan of all that hatin’ stuff.
