the game award for best simstrategy game
Alright, so you wanna know about this “Best Sim/Strategy Game” thing, huh? Sounds fancy, but lemme tell ya, it’s just about them games where you gotta think a bit, you know? Not like them shooty-bang-bang ones the youngsters play. This is about plannin’ and schemin’, like plantin’ crops but with, like, armies and stuff.
They got this big award show, see? The Game Awards. It’s a big to-do, all them fancy folks in suits, clappin’ and hollerin’. And one of the things they give out prizes for is the best of these thinkin’ games.
Now, what makes a good sim or strategy game? Well, it gotta be interestin’, that’s for sure. Can’t be borin’, or I’ll fall asleep faster than a baby after a bottle of milk. It’s gotta make you feel like you’re really in charge, you know? Like you’re the boss of somethin’, whether it’s a whole kingdom or just a little farm.
- You gotta build stuff.
- You gotta manage stuff.
- And sometimes, you gotta fight stuff.
One game they gave this award to, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Now, that sounds like a mouthful, don’t it? But it’s fun, even for an old gal like me. You got these little rabbit things and Mario, yeah, that plumber fella, and they run around fightin’ bad guys. But it ain’t just shootin’, no sir. You gotta think about where to put your little guys, what powers to use, all that jazz.
Then there’s this other one, Dune: Spice Wars. Sounds spicy, right? Well, it’s about this desert planet and fightin’ over some kinda special spice. I don’t get all the details, but it’s about plannin’ and buildin’ and outsmartin’ the other fellas. Sounds like everyday life to me except without the spice and fighting other people part.

And of course, can’t forget about Total War: WARHAMMER III. War, war, war, that’s all them young fellas think about! This one’s got big battles and lots of different armies. You gotta build up your forces, manage your resources, and then send your boys into the fight. It’s like chequers but a whole lot more complicated and with more yelling.
They also talk about Civilization 6. Now, this one, this one’s about buildin’ a whole darn civilization! From nothin’ to somethin’, just like my grandpappy did when he came to this country. You start with a little village and you gotta make it grow, build cities, research new stuff, and deal with other civilizations, sometimes friendly, sometimes not so much. It reminds me of that time when the Johnson’s chickens got loose all over the yard and we had to work together to get them all back.
So, how do they pick the best one? Well, I reckon they got a bunch of folks who play all these games and then they argue about it, just like my kids arguin’ over who gets the last piece of pie. They look at things like how fun it is, how well it’s made, and how much thinkin’ it makes you do. Then they give a shiny little trophy to the one they like best.
This year, The Game Awards 2024, they got a whole new batch of games to pick from, like Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Don’t ask me about them, I ain’t played ’em yet. But I bet they’re somethin’ special, otherwise they wouldn’t be up for the award. Maybe one of thems games is about gardenin’. Now that would be fun!
So, there you have it. That’s the lowdown on this “Best Sim/Strategy Game” award. It’s just about pickin’ the best game where you gotta use your noggin. And that, to me, is a good thing. Too much shootin’ and not enough thinkin’ these days, if you ask me. But then again, nobody ever asks me nothin’.
In the end, these awards just tell you which games are good, which games make you think, and which games are worth your time. And time, well, that’s somethin’ you can’t get back, so you might as well spend it playin’ a good game, right?
