Alright, let’s talk about them strategy thingy games, the VR kind. You know, the ones where you gotta think a bit, not just shoot everything that moves. My grandkids, they love these things. Me? I just watch, makes my head spin sometimes.

So, what are these strategy VR games all about? Well, it’s like this, you gotta be the boss, tellin’ folks what to do. Like, “you go there,” and “you build that,” and “don’t be stupid!” It ain’t easy, let me tell ya. You gotta plan things out, think ahead, like plantin’ crops in the spring so you got somethin’ to eat in the winter. Same kinda deal, just with more shootin’ and explodin’ sometimes.

Now, some folks say real strategy games are hard to make in VR. They say it’s all too fast, you gotta clickety-click real quick. I dunno ’bout that. Seems to me, if you can wave your hands around and point at stuff, that’s pretty much the same thing. Maybe even better, ’cause you feel like you’re really there, bossin’ folks around.

  • Leading the troops: You get to tell your little soldiers where to go, who to fight. It’s like directin’ a play, but with more swords and guns. You gotta be smart, though, or your guys will get all messed up.
  • Building stuff: Gotta build a base, you know? A place to keep your guys safe, make more guys, and get all the stuff you need to win. It’s like buildin’ a chicken coop, only bigger and with more lasers.
  • Managing resources: Can’t just go around willy-nilly, spendin’ everything you got. Gotta save up, make sure you got enough food, wood, or whatever it is you need. Reminds me of savin’ pennies for a rainy day.

They say there’s a difference between strategy and tactics. Tactics is like, “shoot that guy!” Strategy is like, “we’re gonna shoot that guy, then that guy, then take over that hill over there.” See the difference? Strategy is the big plan, tactics is the little fights. Good games need both, just like a good stew needs both meat and potatoes.

There’s this game, Crusader Kings III, my grandson tells me about it. Sounds complicated. Kings and queens and fightin’ for land. Not my cup of tea, but he seems to like it. Then there’s XCOM 2, fightin’ aliens. Now that sounds more like it! Blast them little green men back to where they came from!

And this Civilization VI game, buildin’ a whole darn country! From nothin’ to somethin’. That’s impressive. Takes a lot of thinkin’, though. You gotta decide if you wanna be friendly or if you wanna go around stompin’ on everybody. Reminds me of the squabbles at the county fair, but on a much bigger scale.

Then there’s the ones with tanks and soldiers, like Company of Heroes 2 or Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2. Blowin’ stuff up, that’s always fun to watch. Though, it makes you think, all that fightin’ and fussin’, what’s it all for? Just like my chickens fightin’ over a piece of corn, sometimes it just don’t make no sense.

Another thing they talk about is Offworld Trading Company. That’s about makin’ money, see? Buyin’ low, sellin’ high. Like sellin’ eggs at the market, but in space! Gotta be shrewd, gotta know what you’re doin’. Can’t just go around givin’ your stuff away, or you’ll end up with nothin’.

And Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, I think that one’s got spaceships. Flyin’ around, fightin’ in the stars. Sounds fancy. I reckon it’s like drivin’ a tractor, but a whole lot faster and with more shootin’. Though, I bet them spaceship drivers ain’t gotta worry about mud and cow patties like I do.

Total War: Warhammer II, that one’s got big monsters and magic and stuff. Not really my thing, all that fantasy nonsense. But the grandkids, they eat it up. I guess it’s like readin’ fairy tales, only you get to be in the story. Me? I prefer somethin’ a little more down to earth, you know?

So, that’s the deal with these strategy VR games. You gotta think, you gotta plan, you gotta lead. It ain’t easy, but it can be fun. Just like life, I guess. You gotta figure out what you wanna do, and then you gotta go do it. And sometimes, you just gotta blow stuff up. It’s all part of the game.

In the end, it’s all about havin’ a good time, right? Whether you’re buildin’ an empire or blastin’ aliens, it’s about escapin’ for a little while. Just like sittin’ on the porch, watchin’ the sunset, only with more explosions. And that ain’t so bad, I reckon.
