strategy video game news

Alright, listen up, y’all. Gonna tell ya ’bout them strategy video games, the kind my grandson’s always yappin’ about. He says they make ya think, like plannin’ where to put the chicken coop so the fox don’t get ’em. Only it’s with tanks and spaceships and such. Don’t make a lick of sense to me half the time, but he seems to like it, so there ya go.

So, first off, they got these new games comin’ out all the time. Like, there’s this one called “Against The Storm,” comin’ out soon, my grandson says it’s gonna be on that “Game Pass” thingy. Sounds fancy. Then there’s another one, “Star Trek: Infinite,” already out. Spaceships and aliens, I reckon. My grandson, he’s all excited about ’em, says it’s all about makin’ plans and outsmartin’ the other fella. Like cheatin’ at checkers, but with more buttons to push.

Now, they say some of the best strategy games out there are things like “Crusader Kings” and “Civilization.” Don’t ask me what they’re about, sounds like history stuff to me. My grandson tried explainin’ it once, somethin’ about buildin’ empires and fightin’ wars. Too much thinkin’ for my old brain, I tell ya. He also mentioned “XCOM” and “Company of Heroes,” those sound like fightin’ games, shootin’ and blowin’ things up. And get this, he even says them sports games, like that “FIFA” and “PES” stuff, are strategy games too. Kicking a ball around, makin’ plans… sounds like a load of hooey to me, but what do I know?

They got this fancy word for it, “game theory,” my grandson says. It’s all about figurin’ out what the other guy’s gonna do, like predictin’ if the rooster’s gonna crow before sunrise. Only, it’s with armies and spaceships, not roosters. He says you gotta think ahead, plan your moves, like plantin’ corn in the spring so you got somethin’ to eat in the winter. Makes sense, I guess, even if it’s all done on a screen.

And speakin’ of thinkin’, my grandson says these games make your brain work faster. He calls it “strategic thinkin’,” says it helps him make decisions quicker. Like when the cow gets out of the pasture, you gotta figure out how to get her back in, fast. Only, in the game, it’s like, “where do I put my tanks so the enemy don’t blow ’em up?” Or somethin’ like that.

He showed me some of these games once, all these little pictures movin’ around on the screen. Looked like a mess to me, but he seemed to know what he was doin’. Clickin’ and draggin’ and typin’ away, like he was workin’ on the tractor, only without the dirt. He says you gotta manage your resources, like makin’ sure you got enough water for the crops, only it’s with gold and wood and spaceships. Goes to show ya, even in them fancy games, it’s all about the same things, plannin’ and workin’ hard.

  • Thinkin’ Ahead: You gotta plan your moves like plantin’ corn, think about what you gonna do next.
  • Outsmartin’ the Other Guy: It’s like cheatin’ at checkers, gotta figure out what your opponent’s up to.
  • Managin’ Your Stuff: Just like makin’ sure you got enough hay for the winter, gotta keep track of your resources in the game.

So, there ya have it, that’s what I know about them strategy video games. Sounds complicated to me, but the young folks seem to like ’em. Maybe it’s good for their brains, teachin’ ’em to think and plan. Or maybe it’s just a way to pass the time, like knittin’ a quilt, only with more explosions. Either way, it ain’t my cup of tea, but to each their own, I always say. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on the chickens. At least they don’t need a strategy guide to lay eggs.

One more thing, my grandson was yappin’ about some new game he saw, somethin’ called “Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak.” And “Total War: Warhammer II,” I think. Says they’re real good for learnin’ how to make big decisions. Don’t know about that, seems to me learnin’ to drive a tractor is more useful, but hey, what do I know? He’s the one with the fancy computer, so I guess he’s the expert. Anyways, I gotta go now. Suppers gettin’ cold and my old bones are achin’.

He did mention “Command and Conquer Red Alert 2” the other day. I don’t know nothin’ ‘bout it but sounded like a ruckus to me. All them games sound the same anyways. Bang bang shoot ‘em up and makin’ plans. Just like gettin’ the crops in before the rain, I reckon. Anyways, them games keep him busy, and out of my hair mostly so I can’t complain too much. He’s a good boy even if he does spend too much time starin’ at that screen.
