strategy snes games
Okay, here’s the article about strategy games on the SNES, written like a plain-spoken old woman telling a story, and with some simple HTML tags for formatting.
Well now, let me tell you about these here strategy games, the kind they used to play on that Super Nintendo thing. My grandkids, they’re always fiddlin’ with their fancy new PlayStations and whatnot, but back in my day, we had this here SNES, and let me tell ya, it had some games that could really make you think.
What’s a Strategy Game Anyway?
Now, I ain’t no expert, but from what I gather, a strategy game is one of them games where you gotta use your brain. Not just fast fingers, mind you, but real thinkin’. You gotta plan things out, like where to move your fellers on the screen, and what to do to beat the other fella. It’s like…like playin’ checkers, but with a whole lot more goin’ on.
Some SNES Games That Made You Scratch Your Head

One of the big ones, the one everyone talked about, was called Ogre Battle. Sounded kinda scary, with ogres and all. My nephew, he was always playin’ it. Said it was about marchin’ your army around, takin’ over towns, and fightin’ other armies. He’d spend hours starin’ at that screen, mumblin’ about formations and such. Said it was real deep, with lots of choices to make.
- Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen – That’s the one my nephew played. Big game, lots to do.
- There were others too, but I can’t recall all their names now. Too many of ’em. My memory ain’t what it used to be, ya know.
Why Folks Liked These Thinkin’ Games
Now, I always preferred a good puzzle game myself, somethin’ simple. But these strategy games, they had somethin’ special. They made you feel smart, like you were a general or somethin’. You weren’t just pushin’ buttons; you were makin’ decisions, big ones, that decided if you won or lost.
And they weren’t just about fightin’, neither. Some of ’em were about buildin’ things, like cities or farms. Or managin’ resources, like makin’ sure you had enough food and wood to keep your people happy. It was like…like runnin’ a whole little world on that TV screen.
Are These Old Games Any Good Today?
Well, I reckon some folks still play ’em. My grandkids, they laugh when they see them old graphics, all blocky and such. But I tell ya, them games had heart. They weren’t just about pretty pictures; they were about usin’ your brain and havin’ fun. And from what I heard some smart folks say, most of them video games today, even them strategy ones, don’t really make you no smarter, they just pass the time.
And them fellers who made them games, the fella at Square Enix and Quest, they really put their minds to it. They even used some fancy new stuff, something called SGI hardware, to make them games look as good as they could back then, even if it wasn’t much by today’s standards. I heard it came out way back when, on March 12, 1993. It was a good year for games, that was.
A good game is a good game, no matter how old it is. If you like thinkin’ and plannin’, then maybe you should give one of them old SNES strategy games a try. You might be surprised at how much fun you have. Just don’t expect fancy graphics, okay? It’s all about the gameplay, as them young folks say.

And remember, it ain’t about how fast you push them buttons, it’s about how smart you are with the pushin’! That’s what I always say.
