Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Roblox thing, like them youngsters talkin’ about it all the time. Seems like it’s a big deal, you know? Kinda like how we used to play with them sticks and stones, only fancier, I reckon.

Heard some folks callin’ it a “metaverse.” Sounds mighty complicated, but from what I gather, it’s like a whole ‘nother world on that there internet. Remember when they first got them computers? Folks said it was gonna change everything. This metaverse thing, seems like it’s the same kinda deal, only bigger, maybe. They sayin’ it’s like a whole new internet, can you believe it?

  • First off, they got this thing called “subscriptions,” like joinin’ a club or somethin’. You pay some money, and you get special stuff, I guess. Sounds like them magazines we used to get, only you don’t get no paper, just stuff on that screen.
  • Then they got these “games” you can buy. You know, like them pinball machines down at the diner, only on the computer. Kids these days, they don’t even know what a real pinball machine is, bless their hearts.
  • And the last thing, they call it “virtual items.” Now, this one’s a bit tricky. Seems like you can buy clothes and things for your little character in the game. Imagine that! Spendin’ real money on pretend clothes! Back in my day, we made our own dolls outta cornhusks, and we were happy with that.

This Roblox thing, it ain’t new, not really. Heard tell it’s been around for a while, even before folks started jabberin’ ’bout this metaverse stuff. They say in China they used to call it somethin’ else, “all-real internet” or somethin’ like that. Started way back in 1992, can you believe it? I was already a grandma back then!

Now, what makes this Roblox different, they say, is how easy it is to make stuff in it. You don’t need to be no fancy computer whiz. Just drag and drop things with that mouse thingy, and bam! You got yourself a game or somethin’. That’s pretty neat, I gotta say. Reminds me of makin’ them quilts, takin’ little pieces and puttin’ ’em together to make somethin’ bigger.

Roblox, they say it’s a big company now, worth a whole heap of money. And it all started with just lettin’ kids play and make their own stuff. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? Maybe there’s a lesson in there for all of us. Let folks have some fun, let ’em be creative, and who knows what they’ll come up with. It might just change the world, or at least keep them youngsters busy for a while.

And it ain’t just for playin’ around, mind you. Some folks are sayin’ it’s gonna be a big deal for learnin’ too. “Edutainment,” they call it. Fancy word for learnin’ while you’re havin’ fun, I reckon. Back in my day, we learned by doin’. Maybe this is just a new way of doin’ things, on that there computer screen.

Anyways, that’s what I make of this Roblox thing. It’s a game, it’s a place to make stuff, it’s a whole ‘nother world, they say. And it all comes down to folks wanting to have fun, to create, and to connect with each other. Ain’t that what we all want, deep down? Just a little bit of fun and a little bit of connection in this big, old world.

They say it’s gonna be bigger than ever. Like, this whole Metaverse thing, seems like Roblox been doin’ it for years already. I hear some big companies like Meta and that Epic Games are jumping on this metaverse bandwagon too. But Roblox was there first, just chugging along, letting the young ones build and play and have fun.

And where do they get their money from for all this? Well, from all the stuff folks buy in the game, like I said. Those subscriptions, those games, those fancy virtual clothes. That’s how they keep the lights on and keep this whole thing going. It’s like a big ol’ store, only you don’t have to leave your house, you do all your buyin’ on that computer screen.

So yeah, that’s my take on Roblox. A fancy game, a new way of learnin’, a whole ‘nother world. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll even try it myself, but for now, I’ll stick to my gardenin’ and my quiltin’. It’s what I know, and it makes me happy. And that’s all that matters, ain’t it?
