oxenfree game review

Okay, so I finally got around to playing this game called Oxenfree, and let me tell you, it was a trip. I’d heard some good things about it, but I didn’t really know what to expect.

Getting Started

I fired up the game and was immediately drawn in by the art style. It’s got this cool, kinda retro vibe that I really dug. The story starts with a bunch of teenagers going to this abandoned island for a party. You play as Alex, this blue-haired girl who seems pretty chill, but also has some baggage she’s dealing with.

Exploring the Island

So, we get to the island, and things start getting weird pretty fast. There are these strange radio signals, and you start seeing things that aren’t really there. It’s all very spooky and mysterious. I spent a good chunk of time just wandering around, exploring different parts of the island, and trying to figure out what the heck was going on.

Talking to People

One of the things I really liked about Oxenfree is the way the conversations work. It feels very natural, like you’re actually talking to these characters. You can choose what to say, and your choices actually affect the story and how the other characters react to you. I spent a lot of time just chatting with everyone, trying to get to know them better and uncover their secrets.

Unraveling the Mystery

As I played more, I started to piece together the story of the island and the strange things that were happening. There’s this whole supernatural element to it, with ghosts and time loops and all sorts of crazy stuff. I won’t spoil anything, but let’s just say it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I found that if you strive to see all aspects of the game, it will take longer than just following the main objectives. I played for almost 13 hours.

Wrapping Up

In the end, I was really impressed with Oxenfree. It’s a well-written, well-acted, and superbly paced game with a great story and interesting characters. The conversation system is top-notch, and the whole thing just feels very unique and different from other games I’ve played. The horror movies inspiration from the 1980s was a good choice. If you’re into story-driven games with a bit of a spooky twist, I definitely recommend giving it a try. Oh and I heard that there’s a sequel, so you might want to play this one first to fully enjoy the second installment.

  • Pros:
    • Cool art style
    • Engaging story
    • Natural-feeling conversations
    • Interesting characters
    • Spooky and mysterious atmosphere
  • Cons:
    • Can be a bit slow-paced at times
    • Might be too spooky for some people

Overall, I had a blast playing Oxenfree. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely a memorable gaming experience.
