independent game reviews
Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of independent game reviews. I’ve always been curious about how people get their hands on these games and what the whole review process looks like.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find some indie games to actually review. I started by just searching around online. browsed through some popular indie game websites.
Playing the Games
This is the fun part, obviously! I made sure to play each game for a decent amount of time. I didn’t want to just scratch the surface; I really wanted to get a feel for the gameplay, the story, the mechanics, everything.
- Took notes while playing. Anything that stood out, good or bad.
- Played through different parts of the game, not just the beginning.
- Tried to experience everything the game had to offer.
- If I enjoy it, I will play it more.
Writing the Reviews
After I played each game ,then started writing. I decided to keep things pretty casual. I’m not a professional game critic, so I just wrote like I was talking to a friend.
I started with a quick summary of the game, then talked about what I liked and didn’t like. I tried to be as specific as possible. Instead of saying “the graphics were good,” I’d say something like, “I loved the pixel art style, especially the character animations.”

I also made sure to mention any technical issues I ran into, like bugs or glitches.
Final step
I proofread everything, made sure it all made sense, and there were my reviews!
It was a fun experiment. It definitely gave me a new appreciation for game reviewers and all the work that goes into it. Plus, I discovered some awesome indie games that I probably wouldn’t have found otherwise!
