how to review game on steam
Alright, listen up, y’all. You wanna write one of them Steam game reviews, huh? It ain’t rocket science, I tell ya. Even this old gal can figure it out, so you surely can too.
First thing’s first, you gotta find that game you wanna yap about. Head on over to that there Steam store, you know, the place where you spend all your hard-earned cash. Type in the game’s name in that little search box at the top. Can’t miss it. It’s like lookin’ for a needle in a haystack, but the haystack’s got a big sign sayin’ “HAYSTACK” on it.
Once you find it, click on it. Duh. Takes you to the game’s page, where they show off all them fancy pictures and videos. You ain’t here to gawk, though. You gotta scroll down a bit. Keep your eyes peeled for a big ol’ box. Sometimes it says somethin’ like “Write a review” or “Tell us what you think”. Can’t miss it. It’s bigger than a breadbox, I tell ya.
Now, here’s the tricky part, or so they say. You gotta actually write somethin’. Don’t go gettin’ all fancy with your words, though. Just tell it like it is. Did you like the game? Did it make you wanna throw your computer out the window? That’s the kinda stuff folks wanna know.
- Start with the story, if there is one. What’s it all about? Is it about a princess savin’ the world? Or maybe some fella shootin’ aliens? Just give us the gist of it. Don’t need to write a whole book report.
- Then talk about how you play the game. Do you jump around? Do you shoot things? Do you gotta solve puzzles? Is it like other games you’ve played? Tell us what makes it special, or not so special. Is it one of them shooty games? Or maybe one of them thinky games? Or maybe even one of them farmin’ games, like back in my day, ‘cept we did it for real. You know?
- Don’t forget to say if it’s fun or not! That’s the most important part, ain’t it? Did it make you laugh? Did it make you cry? Did it make you wanna pull your hair out? Tell us!
And for goodness sake, be honest. Don’t go sayin’ a game is good just ’cause your buddy told you to. And don’t go bashin’ a game just ’cause you’re havin’ a bad day. Tell it like you see it, that’s all anyone can ask for.

Think about it like this. You’re tellin’ your neighbor about a new pie you baked. You wouldn’t lie to your neighbor, would ya? You’d tell ’em if it was too sweet, or too sour, or just right. Same thing with a game review.
Some folks like to compare games to other games they’ve played. That ain’t a bad idea. If you say a game is like that there “Call of Duty” game, but with more chickens, folks will know what you mean. Or if you say it’s like that “Candy Crush” game, but with more explosions, well, that paints a picture, don’t it?
And don’t be afraid to talk about different parts of the game. Maybe you liked the shootin’ part, but you hated the drivin’ part. That’s okay! Just say so. The more details you give, the better. But don’t go ramblin’ on forever, neither. Nobody wants to read a novel.
Finally, give it a score, if they let you. Some places use stars, some use numbers, some use thumbs. Whatever it is, just pick the one that best matches how you feel. And don’t worry too much about it. It’s just one person’s opinion, after all.
So there you have it. That’s how you write a game review, even if you ain’t got a fancy education. Just be honest, be clear, and be yourself. And for the love of Pete, check your spellin’ before you hit that “submit” button. Nobody wants to read a review full of mistakes.
Now go on and write somethin’ good, ya hear?
