historical strategy game

Well, howdy there! Let’s jaw about them… whatchamacallit… historical strategy games. Yeah, them thinkin’ games where you gotta move armies and build stuff, like them old-timey kings and queens did, I reckon.

Now, I ain’t no fancy gamer girl, but I seen my grandkids playin’ some of these, and let me tell ya, some are right confusin’, and some are just plain fun. They say there’s this game, Old World, made by the folks who did that Civilization 4 game. Heard it’s all about buildin’ empires way back when, you know, when folks was just startin’ to get the hang of farmin’ and fightin’ off them wild barbarians.

Then there’s this other one, somethin’ like Imperator: Rome. Sounds fancy, huh? Guess you gotta be a big shot Roman emperor or somethin’. Probably a lot of yellin’ and sword fightin’ in that one.

  • And oh, there’s a whole bunch more! Like 0 A.D.: Empires Ascendant. Big name, gotta be important, I guess.
  • And, hold on, Battlefield V. Now that one, I seen the young’uns playin’. Lots of shootin’ and explosions. Not sure if it’s history or just a big ol’ ruckus, but they seem to like it.

You know, they tell me the very first strategy game was somethin’ called Go, way back in old China. Some emperor fella made it up to teach his son a thing or two. Said it looks like checkers, but it ain’t so simple. Makes your head spin, I bet.

Then there’s them Chinese war chess games, like Empire of Angels. My grandson, he’s a real whiz at them. He says it’s called SLG, whatever that means. And them Civilization games, and somethin’ called KOEI Romance of Three Kingdoms. Too many names for this old gal to remember, but they sure do keep them boys busy.

Civilization 6, that’s another one they play a lot. Heard it’s got somethin’ called a district system, which makes the cities spread out. Sounds like a headache to me, but they say it’s the best thing since sliced bread.

Now, if you ask me, the one that sounds right up my alley is Rise of Nations. Made back in 2003, but still good, they say. It’s complicated, though. But I reckon I could handle it. After all, I been strategizin’ how to get them chickens to lay more eggs for years now, that’s gotta count for somethin’, right?

So, there you have it. A whole mess of historical strategy games. Some old, some new, some simple, some complicated. But they all got one thing in common: they make you think. And sometimes, that’s a good thing, even for an old lady like me. Though I still prefer a good cup of coffee and a chat with my neighbor, if you ask me.

But hey, these games, they teach you a thing or two about history. You know, how them empires rose and fell, how them battles was fought, and how them fellas back then tried to make a better life for themselves. It ain’t so different from today, when you think about it. We’re all just tryin’ to make our way in the world, one way or another. And sometimes, a little strategizin’ goes a long way, whether it’s in a game or in real life.

And that’s all I got to say about them historical strategy games. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed them chickens.
