genshin impact xiao cosplay
Okay, so I decided to take on a project that was a bit out of my comfort zone – cosplaying Xiao from Genshin Impact. I’ve always admired the character’s design, and I figured, why not give it a shot? It turned out to be quite the adventure!
Getting Started: Research and Planning
First things first, I needed to really understand the character. I spent hours just looking at pictures of Xiao, official art, in-game screenshots, other cosplayers’ work, you name it. I needed to get a feel for every detail of his outfit, his weapon, his hair, everything.
Then came the planning. I broke down the cosplay into smaller, manageable parts: the jacket, the pants, the inner shirt, the gloves, the accessories, the wig, and of course, the weapon. I made a list of every single piece I needed, and then started figuring out how I was going to get them.
Gathering Materials: The Hunt Begins!
This was probably the most time-consuming part. I scoured the internet for fabrics that looked like they’d work. I’m not a sewing expert by any means, so I opted for materials that seemed relatively easy to work with. I found some decent-looking purplish fabric for the jacket, some black fabric for the pants, and so on.
- Loads of fabric (various shades of purple, black, white, and gold).
- Craft foam (for armor pieces and accessories).
- Worbla (for some of the sturdier parts).
- Lots of paint (gold, black, white, green).
- A wig (obviously!).
- Contact lenses (because details matter!).
- A whole bunch of other stuff like glue, scissors, thread, and so on.
The Construction Process: Trial and Error
Okay, so this is where things got messy. I started with the jacket, because it seemed like the biggest challenge. I draped some fabric on my dress form (a lifesaver!), and just started pinning and cutting. It took a few tries, and a lot of seam ripping, but I eventually got something that resembled Xiao’s jacket.

The pants were a bit easier, thankfully. I used a pair of my own pants as a basic pattern, and just modified them to match Xiao’s design. The inner shirt was pretty straightforward too, just a simple white shirt with some added details.
The accessories were a whole different beast. I experimented with craft foam and Worbla, shaping them into the various pieces of Xiao’s outfit. There was a lot of heating, bending, and gluing involved. And painting! So much painting. I spent days just painting all the little details onto the accessories.
The Wig and Makeup: Finishing Touches
The wig was a challenge.I am not a good hair stylist. After struggling, I found a wig. Trying to get it to look like Xiao’s spiky hair was…an experience. Lots of hairspray and patience were involved.
Then came the makeup. I watched a bunch of cosplay makeup tutorials online, and tried to replicate Xiao’s look. The eyeliner was definitely the trickiest part. It took a few tries to get it right, but I think I eventually managed to pull it off.
The Final Result: Worth It!
After weeks of work, I finally finished the cosplay! Putting it all on for the first time was amazing. It wasn’t perfect, of course, but I was incredibly proud of what I had accomplished. It was a lot of hard work, but seeing the finished product made it all worth it. I even took some photos, and they turned out pretty good! It was a fun, frustrating, and ultimately rewarding experience. Would I do it again? Absolutely!
