game of thrones a song of ice and fire review

Well, let me tell ya about this Game of Thrones thing, or as some folks call it, A Song of Ice and Fire. It’s a real long story, like them old timey tales my grandma used to tell, but with more… well, more of everything, if ya know what I mean.

First off, there’s this place called Westeros. Sounds fancy, huh? But it ain’t all sunshine and roses, let me tell ya. It’s full of kings and queens, knights and lords, and they’re all fightin’ and schemin’ like a bunch of chickens in a coop fightin’ over a single worm.

The story starts off with this king, see? He’s got a bunch of kids, and a wife that ain’t exactly the nicest woman you ever met. And then there’s this other family, the Starks, good folks, mostly. They live up north where it’s cold, real cold. They got this sayin’, “Winter is Coming,” and let me tell ya, when winter comes in Westeros, it ain’t no joke. It’s like the worst blizzard you ever seen, times ten.

Now, there’s all sorts of magic and strange things happenin’ too. There’s these things called Others, creepy fellas from up north, beyond this big ol’ ice wall. They ain’t human, that’s for sure. They got blue eyes and they bring the cold with ’em. Scary stuff, I tell ya.

  • There’s dragons too! Big, fire-breathin’ lizards. Thought they was all gone, but they ain’t.
  • And there’s these wolves, big as horses some of ’em, and smart too. They kinda stick with the Stark kids, like they’re supposed to be together.
  • And then there’s the fightin’. Lots and lots of fightin’. Swords and arrows and all that. Folks gettin’ their heads chopped off left and right. It ain’t pretty, but it’s part of the story.

The book, or the books I should say, ’cause there’s a whole bunch of ’em, well, they’re written by this fella named George R.R. Martin. He’s a real wordy fella, uses lots of big words sometimes. But the story, it grabs ya. Even if you don’t understand all the fancy talk, you know what’s goin’ on. People want power, they want land, they want revenge. Same as it always is, I guess.

Some folks say it’s the best fantasy story ever written. I don’t know about that, but it’s darn good. It’s got everything – love, hate, war, magic, and a whole lot of twists and turns. Just when you think you got it figured out, somethin’ else happens and you’re like, “Well, I’ll be darned!”

Now, the TV show, Game of Thrones, it’s pretty good too. They changed some things from the books, but that’s to be expected, I reckon. It’s got all the same characters and most of the same story. And the actors, they do a good job of bringin’ them characters to life. You really feel like you know these people, even the bad ones.

But be warned, it ain’t for the faint of heart. Like I said, there’s lots of fightin’, and some other stuff that ain’t exactly Sunday school material. If you don’t mind a bit of blood and guts and folks doin’ things they shouldn’t, then you might like it. It’s a long story, mind you. Takes a while to read all them books, or watch all them shows. But if you got the time, it’s worth it. It’s a story that stays with ya, long after you’re done reading or watchin’. You’ll be thinkin’ about them characters and what happened to ’em for days, maybe even weeks.

Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire, they’re somethin’ special. They take ya to another world, a world that’s both familiar and strange. It’s a world where anything can happen, and usually does. So, if you’re lookin’ for a good story, one that’ll keep ya on the edge of your seat, then give it a try. Just don’t say I didn’t warn ya about the cold and the fightin’ and all that.

And one more thing, they ain’t finished tellin’ the story yet. That George R.R. Martin fella, he’s still writin’. So who knows what’ll happen next? That’s the thing about stories, ain’t it? They keep goin’ even after you think they’re done. Just like life, I guess.
