game dev story guide hardware engineer
Alright, folks, let’s dive into my little adventure with “Game Dev Story” and my quest to snag that elusive Hardware Engineer. I’ve been playing this game on and off for a while, and I finally cracked the code, so I figured I’d share my experience.
First things first, I restarted the game. Yeah, I know, sounds drastic, but I wanted a clean slate. I’d messed up my previous playthroughs by hiring too many people too early and burning through my cash. This time, I was going to be smart about it. I started with the basic four employees, focusing on getting some small contracts done to build up some funds.
The early game is a bit of a grind. Accept every contract. I did a lot of those, and I used the money to improve the skills of my team. I sent them to training, boosted their levels. I learned that you gotta keep your team’s skills up; otherwise, you’re gonna produce some real garbage games.
Focus on Training

Then after a few in-game years, around year 4 or 5, I started getting job change items from Conventions. I used those items to change the jobs of my staff. I learned that changing job classes can make your staff really good. I got a few “Director” job changes, and one of my staff became a director, boosting their stats further.
Now, here’s the part where I messed up a few times before. I kept waiting and waiting for a Hardware Engineer to randomly show up in the hiring pool. Nope. That’s not how it works. You gotta make one. I promoted one of my existing staff, which was a director already, I used a “Career Change Manual” on them. I’m not sure if that’s the right term, but that’s basically what it is – an item that lets you change a staff member’s job.

And then, Bam! After using the item, I checked my staff list, and there it was: Hardware Engineer. Finally!
So, the key takeaway? Don’t wait for one to appear. Proactively use those job change items, level up your existing staff, and get a director job change item. And then turn one of your staff members into that engineering genius. That’s what worked for me, anyway. Hope this helps some of you out there who’ve been pulling your hair out trying to get this achievement!
