exit the game reviews

Okay, so I’ve been seeing ads for these “Exit the Game” things all over the place, and I finally caved. I’m a sucker for a good puzzle, and the idea of an escape room in a box sounded pretty cool. I grabbed a couple of different ones to try out with my friends this weekend. We decided to start with “The Abandoned Cabin”.

Getting Started

First thing, we opened up the box. Inside, there were a bunch of cards, a little booklet, and some weird-looking cardboard pieces. We were a little confused at first, to be honest. The instructions were okay, but it took us a minute to figure out how everything worked together.

We laid out all the cards on the table and started reading through them. There’s a deck of riddle cards, a deck of answer cards, and a deck of clue cards, and each of it had some instructions.

Diving into the Puzzles

The story sets you up in this creepy abandoned cabin (duh), and you have to solve puzzles to “escape.” We started flipping through the riddle cards. Some of them were pretty straightforward, like figuring out a pattern or decoding a message. Others were way more tricky! We definitely had to use the clue cards a few times. I’m not gonna lie, there were moments where we were all just staring at each other like, “What?!”

It’s cool how the game uses the different components. You might have to cut up a card, fold something, or even combine pieces from different parts of the game. It’s not just reading and solving; you’re actually manipulating stuff, which makes it feel more like a real escape room, I guess.

Teamwork Makes The Dream Work

We definitely learned that working together is key. One person might notice something that someone else missed. We were bouncing ideas off each other, arguing a little (in a fun way!), and finally cracking the codes. It was awesome when we’d finally figure out a tough puzzle – lots of high-fives!

The Final Verdict

We managed to “escape” the cabin! It took us a good couple of hours, and we used a bunch of clue cards, but we did it! Overall, I thought it was a really fun experience. It’s definitely something I’d do again with friends. It’s a nice change of pace from just watching TV or playing video games.

  • Pros: Challenging puzzles, good for groups, feels like a mini escape room.
  • Cons: Instructions could be a little clearer, some puzzles were REALLY tough.

I am planning to try other “Exit The Game” to compare with this “The Abandoned Cabin”.
