evil dead the game review

So, the other day I finally got around to playing “Evil Dead: The Game.” I’d heard some buzz about it, you know, usual internet chatter, some good, some bad, whatever. I gotta say, it’s been a while since a game got me this hooked.

I jumped in on my PS5, and let me tell you, this game is a wild ride. It’s this whole “asymmetric multiplayer” thing, basically like a messed-up game of cat and mouse. You’ve got survivors running around trying not to get butchered, and then there’s the demon player who’s job is to, well, butcher them.

First off, I tried out the solo play. I mean it’s cool that they even have that option, you know? Not everyone has a bunch of friends who are into this sort of thing. So yeah, played a few matches with bots. It’s okay, a good way to learn the ropes, but the real fun is definitely with other people. Then I dove into the single-player campaign. It’s split up into like five parts, and each one is pretty intense.

Multiplayer Mode

But the multiplayer, man, that’s where it’s at. It’s just pure chaos, in the best way possible. The tension when you’re playing as a survivor is insane. You’re scavenging for supplies, trying to complete objectives, all while knowing that the demon is out there, lurking, waiting to pounce. I spent hours just running around, trying to stay alive, and it’s so satisfying when you actually manage to pull off a win as a survivor.

And playing as the demon? Oh boy. It’s a total power trip. You’re setting traps, possessing deadites, and just generally wreaking havoc. You really feel like an evil mastermind, and stomping the survivors into the ground is just… well, it’s a lot of fun.

I played it on May 13, 2022. This game was released on the PS4, PS5, PC, and Xbox, from what I gathered online. There was apparently some talk about a Switch version, but I guess that’s not happening now, according to the information that I found on internet, which said it was canceled in September 2023. Seem people either love it or hate it.

  • Playing as a survivor is a real nail-biter.
  • Playing as a demon is just pure, unadulterated fun.

All in all, I dumped a ton of hours into this game already, and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon. It’s just a blast to play, whether you’re a fan of the Evil Dead movies or not. If you’re into horror and you like multiplayer games, you gotta check this one out. I gave it a try. Maybe you could also give it a try. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
