ender’s game book review
So, I finally got around to reading “Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott Card. Everyone and their mother has been telling me to read this book for ages. It’s like, one of those sci-fi classics that’s always on those “must-read” lists, you know?
Getting Started
I went to the bookstore last week, picked up a copy. It wasn’t hard to find, it was displayed in a popular area. The cover looked pretty cool, with this kid in a space suit. It got my attention and it looked interesting. Then I started reading it on the bus ride home. I had heard a lot of good things, but I didn’t really know what to expect. I just knew it was about some kid named Ender who goes to a space school or something.
Reading the book
The first few chapters were a little slow, I’ll admit. It was a lot of setup, introducing Ender and his family, and talking about this war with aliens called the “buggers.” But once Ender got to Battle School, things started to get really interesting. This kid is seriously smart, like, a total genius. He’s also super good at strategy and figuring people out. It’s not hard to see why he was chosen for this special program.
The training was intense. They played these zero-gravity games that sounded brutal. It was a lot of planning and strategy, not just physical, to win. The action was pretty gripping. There was a lot of mind games, with the teachers manipulating the kids and stuff. It was kind of messed up, but it made for a good story. I was totally hooked.
I ended up reading the whole book in, like, three days. I was up to 2 or 3 AM two nights reading this book. I just couldn’t put it down. I had to know what was going to happen to Ender and the rest of the kids. It was a very engaging read and I couldn’t put it down.

After Finishing
Without giving too much away, the ending was a real shocker. I definitely didn’t see it coming. It made me think a lot about war, and what it means to be a hero, and the whole idea of “the other.” This book is not just another sci-fi story, it raises some deep questions. It made me think about the sacrifices that are made in war and the ethical dilemmas that come with it.
I also started looking into the other books in the series. Apparently, they go even deeper into these philosophical questions. I’m not sure if I’m ready for that yet, but I’m definitely curious. I also want to watch the movie, to see how they did it, but I don’t want it to ruin the book for me.
The Verdict
Overall, I’d say “Ender’s Game” totally lives up to the hype. It’s a really well-written book, with a great story and some really interesting characters. And it makes you think, which is always a plus. I get why this is a sci-fi classic. It really is different than other sci-fi books about aliens. It’s got this whole ethical and moral dilemma piece that makes it unique and stand out. It’s a great read, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone, even if you’re not usually a sci-fi fan.
- Pros: Gripping story, smart protagonist, thought-provoking themes.
- Cons: A bit slow at the beginning, some of the violence might be disturbing to some readers.
So yeah, that’s my take on “Ender’s Game.” If you’ve read it, let me know what you thought in the comments! I’d love to hear your thoughts.
