dying light video game review
Alright, let’s talk about this Dying Light video game, you know, the one with all them zombies. My grandkids, they keep yellin’ about it, so I figured, why not? Let me tell ya what I think, plain and simple.
First off, this game, it’s got a whole lot of jumpin’ and runnin’. They call it “parkour,” I think. You’re climbin’ on roofs, jumpin’ across gaps, all that jazz. It’s kinda fun, I gotta say, makes you feel like you’re young again, almost. Though, my old bones would be breakin’ if I tried that for real.
Now, the story, well, it ain’t the most excitin’ thing I ever heard. Somethin’ about a city, Harran they call it, and a virus turnin’ folks into them bitin’ monsters. You’re some guy tryin’ to help, I guess, but mostly you’re just runnin’ around, hittin’ zombies. It’s like a bad dream, ya know? Keeps goin’ and goin’, but you can’t quite make sense of it all.
The zombies, though, they’re somethin’ else. Some are slow and dumb, easy to smack around. Others, they’re fast and nasty, jumpin’ at ya outta nowhere. And then there’s the night. Oh, boy, the night. That’s when things get real scary. Them biters, they get stronger, and these big ol’ monsters come out, chasin’ you all over the place. You gotta be careful, real careful. Makes you wanna hide under the covers, just like when I was a little girl scared of the dark.
But you ain’t just runnin’ from zombies, no sir. You gotta fight ’em. And that’s where the weapons come in. You got bats, pipes, knives, all sorts of things to smack them monsters with. You can even make your own weapons, puttin’ together scraps you find lyin’ around. It’s like makin’ a stew, I tell ya, you throw a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and hope it tastes good… or in this case, kills zombies good.

- Graphics: Now, the game looks real pretty. The city, it’s all broken down and messed up, but it’s still kinda beautiful in a sad way. The blood and guts, though, that ain’t so pretty. But hey, it’s a zombie game, what do you expect?
- Gameplay: Runnin’, jumpin’, hittin’ zombies. That’s pretty much it. But it’s fun, keeps you busy. There’s also a bunch of quests, things you gotta do for people. Some are interestin’, some are just plain borin’. It’s like fetchin’ water from the well, you do it ‘cause you have to, not ‘cause it’s always a grand ol’ time.
- World: The city is big, lots of places to explore. You can go inside buildings, climb on roofs, it’s like a giant playground, if that playground was full of zombies, of course. It’s more open than my backyard, that’s for sure, reminds me of those big cornfields back home.
They say this game, Dying Light, has been around for a while, like seven years or somethin’. And they got all sorts of extra stuff you can get, like “DLC” they call it. More stories, more weapons, more zombies to kill. Seems like they keep addin’ to it, makin’ it bigger and bigger. Like a snowball rollin’ down a hill, gettin’ bigger and bigger the longer it goes.
Now, some folks like playin’ together, “co-op” they call it. You and your friends, killin’ zombies side by side. Sounds like fun, I guess, but I’m too old for all that. I’d rather just sit here and watch my grandkids play. It is a whole lot less dangerous than chasing chickens, those little things can be mean.
And then they got another one, Dying Light 2. Heard it’s even bigger, even more parkour. More zombies too, I bet. My grandkids, they love it. Me? I’m stickin’ with the first one, it’s enough zombie action for this old lady. I’m getting to that age where I enjoy sitting on the porch and watching things go by, not chasin’ ‘em.
So, what do I think overall? Well, it ain’t perfect. The story’s a bit dull, and some of them quests, they ain’t worth the trouble. But the jumpin’ and runnin’, the fightin’ zombies, that’s fun. And the graphics, they’re real nice. It’s a good game, I guess, if you like that kinda thing. Keeps you entertained, that’s for sure. And ain’t that what matters most in the end? Just somethin’ to pass the time, like knittin’ a scarf, only with more zombies.
In short, if you like smackin’ zombies and runnin’ around, you’ll probably like this Dying Light game. It ain’t high art, but it ain’t bad neither. Just good ol’ fashioned zombie killin’ fun, like a good pot roast, it fills you up and keeps you goin’.
