Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake: Get Launch-Day Delivery And Bonuses
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake launches tomorrow, October 30. If you haven’t preordered a copy of the two-game remake collection, there’s still time to secure release-day delivery from Amazon if you’re a Prime member. The physical edition is available to preorder for Nintendo Switch 2, Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X. You’ll also unlock the Trouble-Free Travel Kit preorder bonus, which comes with the following stat-boosting items:
- One pair of Elevating Shoes
- 3x Seeds of Strength
- 3x Seeds of Defense
- 3x Seeds of Agility
- 3x Seeds of Life
- 3x Seeds of Magic
Unsurprisingly, Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is earning strong reviews from critics. At the time of writing, it holds an 85 Metascore on GameSpot sister site Metacritic. The collection completes Square Enix’s Erdrick Trilogy remake project. If you haven’t played last year’s Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, you should check it out before diving into the new collection. Dragon Quest III takes place before the first Dragon Quest game. Plus, you can save $20 on Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake at Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and Target.
All three Dragon Quest HD-2D Remakes feature beautiful pixel art, rerecorded soundtracks, updated gameplay, and new content.
$60 | Releases October 30
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake preorders come with the Trouble-Free Travel Kit if you preorder and the Marvellous Makeover Kit carryover bonus if you have Dragon Quest III HD Remake save data.
You can preorder physical copies of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X at multiple major retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and Target.
Like all Square Enix games for Switch 2 so far, the Nintendo Switch 2 version is a Game-Key Card that requires a 17GB download. If this bothers you, the Nintendo Switch version has the full game on the card, but just know that you won’t be able to upgrade the Switch version to Switch 2. Anyone who plays the Switch edition on Nintendo’s new console won’t benefit from performance boosts offered on Switch 2.
$150 | Sold Out
The Collector’s Edition is sold out as of October 29.
Along with the standard edition of the game, Square Enix is also offering a $150 Collector’s Edition that includes a physical copy of the game on Switch, PS5, or Xbox Series X, or Game-Key Card on Switch 2, all preorder and carry-over bonuses, and a batch of exclusive collectibles and DLC content. Here’s everything in the Dragon Quest I + II HD-2D Remake Collector’s Edition:
- Dragon Quest I & II HD Remake base game
- 12 Acrylic Character & Monster Figures
- 2 Exclusive Downloadable Wallpapers
- The Outstanding Outfit Kit with the following in-game equipment items: 1x Strength Ring, 1x Pair of Slime Earrings, 1x Mad Cap, 1x Arriviste’s Vest
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Collector’s Edition is available to preorder exclusively at Square Enix’s online store.
As mentioned, Dragon Quest III is a prequel story that takes place before the first two games, and all three make up what is known as the “Erdrick Trilogy.” These are some of the few Dragon Quest games with overt connections in their storylines, but while III is a prequel, each game takes place hundreds of years apart, so you don’t necessarily have to play III first (the original version released after the first two, after all).
$20 (was $35)
If you don’t own it, we’d highly recommend this lovely Dragon Quest art book. Dragon Quest Illustrations: 30th Anniversary Edition features 240 pages of artwork by the late Akira Toriyama, the legendary lead artist for the franchise from 1986-2023.
Dragon Quest Illustrations is on sale for only $20 (was $35) at Amazon. The hardcover book includes over 500 illustrations and a fold-out poster of the franchise timeline.
Dragon Quest fans have yet another classic to look forward to in the coming months. As announced during the Nintendo Direct in September, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined launches February 5, 2026, for Switch 2, Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X. Preorders are available now for $60 at Amazon.
Dragon Quest Game Deals
Square Enix has released numerous Dragon Quest spin-offs in recent years, including multiple console exclusives for Nintendo Switch. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, a Pokemon-esque monster tamer, is available for $35 at Amazon. You can also pick up the action-RPG Dragon Quest Treasures for the same price.
Classic Final Fantasy Games for Nintendo Switch
If you love classic Dragon Quest games, you probably also love older Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy games haven’t received the HD-2D treatment, but there are some stellar enhanced editions with physical releases for Nintendo Switch, including Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, and Final Fantasy I-VI Collection: Anniversary Edition.
When physical editions of Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy VII + VIII Remastered launch in the US in December, Nintendo Switch users will be able to own physical copies of the first 12 mainline games (excluding XI).
