declining video game hardware
Well, let me tell you somethin’ ’bout them video game thingamajigs. Seems like they ain’t doin’ so hot these days. My grandson, he’s always jabberin’ on about his PlayStations and Nintendos, but even he ain’t talkin’ ’bout ’em as much lately.
Them game boxes, they call ’em consoles, well, they’re sellin’ less and less. It ain’t just one company, it’s all of ’em. The X-box, the PlayStations, and even them Nintendos… they all sellin’ way less than they used to. My neighbor’s boy, he works down at the store, says they ain’t movin’ like they used to. Folks just ain’t buyin’ ’em like they used to.
Now, them computer games, them fancy PC ones, they’re a whole ‘nother story. They still makin’ money, lots of it. Seems like folks like playin’ on their computers more now. Don’t ask me why, computers is for workin’, not playin’, if you ask me. But what do I know? I’m just an old woman.
- Them game sales, they went up real high durin’ that sickness time, the pandemic they called it. Everybody was stuck inside, so I guess they played games.
- But now, well, now they ain’t sellin’ so good no more. Prices is goin’ up, and folks ain’t got as much money to spend, I reckon.
- And folks ain’t playin’ as much neither. Used to be, that grandson of mine, he’d be glued to that screen all day. Now, he’s out playin’ ball sometimes. Imagine that!
Them computer game makers, they talkin’ ’bout puttin’ games on the “cloud” now. Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me. But they say you can play games on anythin’ with a screen, your phone, your tablet, even your TV, I guess. Maybe that’s why folks ain’t buyin’ them game boxes no more.
Video game hardware sales been droppin’ like a rock. Everythin’ from the game consoles to the fancy computer parts folks use to play games, it’s all down. They say the Nintendo, well, that thing they call the Switch, it went down the most. Nearly half of what it used to be! That’s a lot, even for an old lady like me to understand.

And them computer parts, the ones that make the pictures on the screen look all pretty, them “GPUs” they call ’em, well, they ain’t sellin’ good neither. Dropped down somethin’ fierce this year. I don’t know why, maybe they just too expensive now.
Heck, they was sayin’ last year that folks would spend a whole lotta money on games and the stuff to play ’em on. Billions of dollars! But now, they sayin’ it’s way less than that. Seems like folks got other things to spend their money on. Food’s gettin’ expensive, you know. Can’t be spendin’ all your money on games when you gotta eat.
I remember when my kids was young, they had them Atari things. Simple games, but they had fun. Now, these games, they’re so complicated, I can’t even understand ’em. Maybe that’s part of the problem. Too fancy for their own good, I say.
Declining video game hardware sales is a real thing, you see? It ain’t just somethin’ I made up. The big companies, they worried, I bet. They gotta figure out how to get folks buyin’ their stuff again. Maybe they should make simpler games, cheaper games. Games that an old lady like me can understand.
Or maybe, just maybe, folks are gettin’ tired of starin’ at screens all day. Maybe they want to go outside, talk to each other, play a real game, you know, like cards or somethin’. That’d be somethin’, wouldn’t it?
Anyway, that’s what I think about these declining video game hardware sales. It ain’t good for them companies, that’s for sure. But maybe it ain’t so bad for the rest of us. Maybe it’ll get folks doin’ somethin’ else for a change.
So, there you have it. Just an old woman’s thoughts on them fancy game things. Take it or leave it, I don’t care much either way.
