cold war strategy games

Well now, lemme tell ya about these here “Cold War strategy games”, or whatever them youngsters call ’em these days. Back in my day, the only “strategy” was makin’ sure the chickens got fed and the crops didn’t fail. But these young’uns, they like playin’ pretend war on them fancy computer boxes.

I hear tell these games are all about that Cold War time, when them Russians and Americans were all puffed up and lookin’ for a fight, but never really throwin’ punches at each other directly. It was all a big ol’ game of chicken, seems like. They’d be stickin’ their noses in other folks’ business, makin’ friends with this country and then turnin’ around and sneakin’ around in that country. Just a whole lotta fuss and bother, if you ask me.

  • From what I gather, some of these games let you control soldiers and tanks and such, like you’re the big boss man tellin’ everyone what to do. Sounds complicated, if you ask me.
  • Then there’s others where you’re buildin’ stuff and managin’ resources, like tryin’ to make sure you got enough food and bullets to keep your army goin’.
  • And then there’s them spy games, where you’re sneakin’ around and stealin’ secrets. Lord have mercy, I can’t even keep track of where I put my glasses, let alone keepin’ secrets!

These game makers, they put a lot of work into makin’ it all look real, you know? They got pictures of them old tanks and planes, and they even make the maps look like them foreign countries. It’s all a bit much for an old woman like me, but the young’uns seem to like it.

I heard tell some of these games are called “shooters,” which means you’re runnin’ around blastin’ everything in sight. That don’t sound very neighborly to me. And then there’s them “turn-based tactics” games, where you gotta think real hard about every move you make. That sounds more my speed, though I reckon I’d still be lost as a goose in a snowstorm.

And don’t forget them “role-playing” games. That’s where you pretend to be somebody else, like a soldier or a spy or somethin’. Seems like a lot of make-believe to me, but I guess it ain’t hurtin’ nobody. They even got games where you just build stuff, like whole cities and armies. I tell you what, these young folks got too much time on their hands.

Some of these games, they call ’em “military-based.” Well, I reckon that’s pretty obvious, ain’t it? It’s all about fightin’ and war and such. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own, I always say.

I also heard them game names like “The Great War: Western Front” and “Armored Brigade”. One’s about that first big war, the one before the Cold War, and the other sounds like it’s got lots of tanks. Them young’uns sure do like their tanks and guns.

Anyways, that’s about all I know about these here “Cold War strategy games.” They seem complicated and a bit silly to me, but I guess they keep them young’uns entertained. Just as long as they don’t start thinkin’ it’s all fun and games and start another real war, that’s all I gotta say.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on them chickens.
