clockmaker game reviews

Okay, so, I’ve been digging into this game called “Clockmaker” lately, and boy, do I have some thoughts. It all started when I saw an ad for it – looked kinda neat, you know, with the match-three puzzles and all that. So, I downloaded it, figuring it’d be a nice way to kill some time.

First off, the graphics are pretty decent. They’ve got this whole Victorian-era vibe going on, which is kinda cool. The story, well, it’s about this cursed town and you gotta solve puzzles to fix it up. Not gonna lie, I mostly skipped through the story parts. I just wanted to get to the puzzles.

Gameplay

The match-three puzzles are… well, they’re match-three puzzles. You’ve seen one, you’ve seen ’em all, right? But they do throw in some different challenges here and there to keep things somewhat interesting. You’ve got your usual “clear this many gems” or “get this item to the bottom” type of deals. They introduced some new mechanics as I progressed, like these chained-up gems and whatnot.

  • Match-3 core: It is the heart of the game, match gems to solve the puzzles.
  • Special Gems: They added some special gems that explode or clear rows. Pretty standard stuff.
  • Obstacles: There are obstacles like boxes and chains that you gotta break through.

Progression and Difficulty

Now, here’s where it gets a bit dicey. The game starts off easy enough, but then the difficulty really ramps up. And by “ramps up”, I mean it gets to the point where you’re either stuck on a level for ages, or you gotta cough up some cash for boosters. I played for about a week. I tried to grind it out without spending money, but man, it was a slog.

In-App Purchases

And that brings us to the in-app purchases. Oh boy, the in-app purchases. They are everywhere. Need more moves? Pay up. Want a powerful booster? Pay up. Running out of lives? You guessed it, pay up. I mean, I get it, they gotta make money, but it felt really pushy. I eventually gave up and uninstalled the game.

So, there you have it. My little adventure with “Clockmaker”. It was fun for a bit, but the aggressive monetization and crazy difficulty spikes kinda ruined it for me. It’s a shame because there was potential there. You know, I might give it another shot sometime. Maybe. But for now, I have other games to play.
