bluey game review

Well now, let me tell ya about this Bluey game. I know a lot of folks like that show on TV, all them little ones watchin’ it, gigglin’ at all the silly antics and stuff. But let me tell ya, this here game ain’t exactly like the TV show, no sir. If ya think you’re gonna get all that same fun and laughs, you might wanna sit down and listen to me for a bit.

Now, the game, they call it Bluey: The Videogame. It’s one o’ them episodic adventure games. Fancy words, ain’t they? But basically, what it means is that ya get to play through little parts of the story, one bit after another, just like chapters in a book, only it’s a game. And it ain’t no big ol’ 10-hour long thing, neither. No, sir, if you’re just goin’ through the main bits, you might finish the whole thing in about an hour. Ain’t much to it, really. But if you’re one o’ them folks who gotta do every little thing and see every nook and cranny, then maybe you’ll stretch it to three hours. But even then, it’s still not much to write home about, if ya ask me.

Now, let’s talk about them minigames. I reckon they thought it’d be fun to throw in a few. But honey, let me tell ya, they ain’t all that exciting. One minute you’re pretendin’ the ground’s lava – like, come on, we all played that when we was kids. Then you’re chasin’ Chattermax ’round the house, which might be cute for a second, but ain’t nobody gonna be jumpin’ outta their seats with excitement over it. And of course, they gotta throw in Keepy Uppy – ya know, keep the ball in the air. It’s fun for a little bit, but it’s the same ol’ thing over and over. If ya ask me, it’s just filler, somethin’ to make the game feel longer than it really is.

They only got four maps, y’all. Just four. There’s the Heeler house and backyard, then there’s the playground, and the creek, or whatever. That’s it. I mean, it ain’t like you’re gonna get lost in some big ol’ world. It’s small, real small, and after a while, you start thinkin’ – what’s the point? Feels like they just put this game out ‘cause they had to, not ‘cause they really wanted to make somethin’ special.

Now, I’m sure some of ya might be thinkin’, “But it’s Bluey! How bad can it be?” Well, that’s the thing. They’re usin’ that Bluey name to make ya think it’s gonna be all fun and games like on TV. But the truth is, it don’t hold up. The fun little jokes that Bluey and Bingo say on the show, they’re few and far between in this game. They don’t even try to put much humor in it. What you’re left with is a game that don’t feel like it’s from the heart, more like it’s just somethin’ they had to make to sell a few copies. It ain’t no masterpiece, that’s for sure.

Now, I know some o’ y’all little ones might still get a kick outta it. My 6-year-old grandkid, bless their heart, said they liked it enough to give it a 7 outta 10. Me, I’d give it about a 4 outta 10. But what do I know, I’m just an old gal who remembers when games used to be more fun. It’s just not all that new or interestin’, and after a while, I found myself thinkin’ I could’ve spent that time doin’ somethin’ else, like sittin’ on the porch and watchin’ the sunset.

So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to keep the young ones busy for a few hours, this Bluey game might do the trick. But don’t go in expectin’ it to be anything like the show. It’s a game, sure, but it ain’t no treasure. If ya ask me, it’s just somethin’ that exists ‘cause they had to make it, not ‘cause they really cared if it was any good. And if you’re one o’ them folks who likes a bit of depth in their games, well, you might wanna look elsewhere. This one’s light, real light.
