Alright, listen up, y’all. Gonna tell ya ’bout them war strategy games on your phone, the ones they call “Android.” My grandkid’s always fiddlin’ with that thing, so I seen a bit.

Now, they got all sorts of games, but we’re talkin’ ’bout the ones where you gotta think, not just shoot everything that moves. Like, you gotta plan and scheme, kinda like plannin’ a big ol’ family reunion, but with more tanks and less potato salad.

Some Good Ones, They Say

Folks are always jabberin’ ’bout these “best” games. Heard tell of some called “Tropico,” where you’re like the big boss of some island. Sounds like a headache if you ask me, but they seem to like it. Then there’s “ROME: Total War,” prob’ly got a bunch of fellas in skirts fightin’ each other. My grandson says you get to boss around whole armies. Imagine that!

• Rusted Warfare: This one, they say, is like the old-school games, buildin’ stuff and sendin’ it off to fight. Simple enough for an old lady like me to understand.
• Into the Breach: Now, this is a funny one. Giant bugs attackin’ cities, and you gotta stop ’em with little robots. Sounds like a Saturday mornin’ cartoon.
• Tyrant’s Blessing: Blessin’ from a tyrant? Sounds like trouble to me. But it’s a game, so I guess it’s alright. You make choices, and they matter, kinda like choosin’ between chicken and fish at the church supper.
• Bloons TD 6: Monkeys throwin’ darts at balloons? Who comes up with this stuff? But folks love it, so it must be good for somethin’.
• Northgard: Vikings! Now, them fellas were tough. You gotta build a village and survive the winter. Reminds me of my childhood, only colder.

And there’s more, they say. “Auto Chess,” “Crying Suns,” “Rebel Inc.” Sounds like a bunch of gibberish to me, but the young’uns eat it up. There’s even one called “Crusader Kings III.” Kings and crusades? Too much history for my old brain. Then there’s stuff like “Offworld Trading Company” and “XCOM 2.” One’s about tradin’ and the other is about fightin’ aliens. They got a game for everything these days, I swear.

War Games for the Army Folks

Now, they also got these war games for the army fellas, the ones who wear them fancy uniforms. They use ’em to learn how to fight better, or so they say. Testin’ out new ways to win wars, I guess. Seems like a lot of work if you ask me. Why not just sit down and have a nice cup of coffee instead? But then again, I ain’t never been in the army.

Games on Your Phone and Your Computer

Some of these games, you can play ’em on your phone, others you need a big computer for. Games like “Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak,” “Total War: Warhammer II,” “Civilization VI,” “Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault,” and “Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2.” My grandson says they got better pictures and more stuff you can do. Too fancy for me, I reckon. And there’s one called “XCOM: Enemy Within.” More aliens, I betcha. You can get it on your phone and your computer.

Findin’ What You Like

So, if you’re lookin’ for one of these war strategy games, you gotta figure out what kind you like. Do you wanna build stuff? Do you wanna boss people around? Do you wanna fight aliens or vikings? There’s a whole mess of ’em out there, so you’re bound to find somethin’ that suits ya. Just don’t spend all day playin’, ya hear? Go outside and get some fresh air once in a while.

And that’s about all I know ’bout them war strategy games. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about war has made me hungry.
