avgn reviewed atlus games
pretty cool idea, right? I mean, the guy’s a legend, and Atlus? They make some seriously awesome, and sometimes seriously weird, games. Imagine the possibilities! The sheer volume of potential “what the heck was that?!” moments.
For those who somehow haven’t heard of him (seriously, where have you been? ), the Angry Video Game Nerd, or AVGN, is this guy who makes these hilarious videos where he rips apart terrible video games. He’s got this over-the-top persona, all angry shouts and ridiculous props, and it’s just pure, unadulterated fun. Think of it as a super-charged, hyper-caffeinated review show, except instead of polite criticisms, you get a screaming match with a malfunctioning cartridge.
And Atlus? Well, they’re the masters of the JRPG. Think Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, Catherine…the list goes on and on. They make games that are often challenging, often weird, and almost always memorable. Some are critically acclaimed masterpieces, others…well, let’s just say they’re a little… unique.
So, picturing AVGN tackling these games? It’s pure gold. Imagine him wrestling with the labyrinthine dungeons of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. Picture his face as he tries to decipher the story of Persona 4. And the sheer, unbridled rage he’d unleash on the frustrating boss battles? I’d pay good money to see that.
I could totally see him having a field day with some of the more… unconventional titles. I mean, Catherine alone is practically begging for an AVGN treatment. The bizarre premise, the surreal gameplay, the sheer unsettling atmosphere…it’s AVGN fuel. He could rant about the bizarre sheep, the confusing puzzles, the mind-bending story—it’s all ripe for the picking.

And let’s not forget the Persona series. While generally beloved, even the Persona games have their quirks. He could probably find something to complain about, even in a critically acclaimed game like Persona 5. Maybe he’d whine about the length of the social links, or the sometimes convoluted story elements, or even the sheer number of stylish accessories. Heck, even the best games have their flaws, and I bet AVGN would be more than happy to point them out with his signature brand of manic energy.
But I’m also pretty sure he’d give props where props are due. I mean, let’s be honest, Persona 5 is a masterpiece, and while AVGN is known for his negativity, he’s also capable of appreciating quality. He might still find something minor to complain about, but overall he would likely acknowledge Persona 5’s brilliance. I think the experience would be a fascinating mix of rage, appreciation, and utter bewilderment.
To make this even clearer, let’s look at some hypothetical AVGN ratings for a few Atlus games:
Game | AVGN Rating (purely speculative!) | Reasoning (again, purely my guess!) |
---|---|---|
Persona 5 | 8/10 | “It’s alright, I guess. Too much anime crap, and the dungeons got repetitive after a while. But the musicthe music was pretty good. Almost makes up for the constant text walls!” |
Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne | 6/10 | “This game is brutal! Brutal! I died like, a thousand times. The difficulty is insane, the story is a confusing mess, and the graphics look like something from the Atari! But…it was…kinda…memorable?” |
Catherine | 7/10 | “What the HELL was that?! Sheep? Horns? A crazy plot about infidelity? And those puzzles?! ButI kind of want to play it again. Weird.” |
Devil Survivor Overclocked | 8.5/10 (A rare positive!) | “A tactical RPG on a handheld console? Not bad actually. A lot more forgiving than Nocturne, but still plenty challenging! A surprisingly enjoyable handheld experience.” |
Thinking about this more, I bet it wouldn’t just be a straight review. He’d probably delve into the history of Atlus, maybe even making some jokes about the weirdness of some of their game concepts. He might even do a deep dive into the lore of the Shin Megami Tensei universe, ending up in a completely unexpected tangent about demons and Japanese mythology.
Ultimately, an AVGN Atlus game review series would be a chaotic, hilarious, and utterly unpredictable journey. A perfect blend of nostalgia, rage, and genuine appreciation for the unique and often bizarre world of Atlus games. I, for one, would be eagerly awaiting each episode.
What Atlus games do you think would drive AVGN absolutely bonkers? Let me know!
