ace hardware washers game
Alright, let me tell ya ’bout this here washers game, ya know, the one they sell stuff for at that Ace Hardware place. Don’t rightly know why they call it a “game,” seems more like folks just throwin’ stuff around to me, but hey, whatever floats their boat, I reckon.
Now, this game, it ain’t nothin’ fancy. You got these little round things, like, uh, washers, yeah, that’s what they call ’em. They’re kinda like flat donuts, made outta metal mostly, sometimes plastic I hear. Got a hole in the middle, big enough to stick your finger through, I guess. Sizes are all over the place, but the ones they use for this game, they’re ’bout this big, ya know, like the top of a coffee cup, maybe a little bigger.
And you gotta throw them washers. That’s the whole dang game! You throw ‘em at somethin’. Sometimes it’s just a hole in a board, sometimes it’s a box, or even a can, depends on how fancy folks wanna get. I seen some folks paintin’ them boxes all pretty, puttin’ numbers and stuff on ‘em, but to me, a box is a box, ya know?
They say you gotta get the washer in the hole, or closer to the hole than the other fella. That’s how you score points, or somethin’. Honestly, I ain’t never paid too much attention to the rules. Seems like everyone plays it a little different anyways. Some folks throw from far away, some folks throw from close up. Some folks use four washers, some folks use three. It’s all the same to me, just throwin’ washers.
You can get these washers at that Ace Hardware store, they got all kinds. Big ones, small ones, metal ones, plastic ones. Heck, you could probably find ‘em lyin’ around yer garage if you looked hard enough. They ain’t exactly special, ya know? They use ’em for all sorts of things. Fixin’ stuff, holdin’ stuff together. Guess that’s why they call it a washer, huh? ‘Cause it washes… somethin’? Never really understood that.

- You can buy a whole set, comes with the washers and the targets.
- Or you can just buy the washers by themselves, if you already got somethin’ to throw at.
- And if you’re really cheap, you can just use whatever you got lyin’ around. Ain’t gotta be fancy, like I said.
I seen folks gettin’ all riled up over this game, yellin’ and cheerin’ and carryin’ on. Seems like a lot of fuss over throwin’ washers to me, but hey, folks gotta have somethin’ to do, I guess. Keeps ‘em outta trouble, maybe. Or maybe gets ‘em into trouble, depends on how much beer they drink while they’re playin’.
You can even find these washers game sets on eBay, they say. Folks sellin’ all sorts of stuff on there, used to be just junk at yard sales but now it’s all on that inner-net thing. Fast shippin’ they say. Don’t know why you’d need fast shippin’ for washers, but whatever. Seems like a waste of money to me, but folks these days, they got more money than sense, I reckon.
So, that’s the washers game in a nutshell. You throw washers at a target. That’s it. Ain’t rocket science, that’s for sure. But folks seem to like it, so who am I to judge? Maybe I’ll try it sometime, if I can find a good box to throw at. And maybe a beer or two wouldn’t hurt neither.
And listen here, don’t go spendin’ a fortune on fancy washers, them things are everywhere. You can find ‘em at the hardware store, sure, but keep an eye out, you might just find ‘em layin’ around. Save yourself a few pennies, ya know? Penny saved is a penny earned, that’s what my mama always said.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go find my glasses. Misplaced ’em again, darn things always disappearin’ on me.
