game dev story change job to hardware engineer

Alright, so I was messing around with Game Dev Story again, and I got stuck in a rut. All my staff were, like, programmers and writers, and I couldn’t make any headway on hardware development. I needed a Hardware Engineer, and that’s when the fun started.

First, I tried just waiting. You know, hoping someone would magically apply with the right skills. Nope. Nothing. Days turned into weeks (in-game, obviously), and my team was still just churning out the same old stuff.

Then, I started looking at my current staff. Could I change someone’s job? I clicked on each employee, checked their stats, and looked for anything related to “Hardware” or “Engineering”. Most of them were, well, let’s just say they were better at writing stories than messing with circuit boards.

The “Aha!” Moment

Finally, I noticed one of my programmers, a guy named Bob (seriously, the game names them randomly), had a decent “Hardware” skill. It wasn’t great, but it was higher than anyone else’s. So, I clicked on him, found the “Change Job” option, and scrolled through the list.

  • Programmer
  • Writer
  • Sound Engineer
  • Designer
  • …and there it was… Hardware Engineer!

I clicked it, and bam! Bob was now a Hardware Engineer. It felt like a major breakthrough, even though it was just a tiny change in a game.

Important note: I learned that you cannot change your job to the hardware engineer until you can develop your own consoles. After that, you just need to level up the person’s hardware skill.

The thing is, Bob’s Hardware Engineer stats were pretty low at first. So, I made sure to assign him to projects that would boost those skills. It took a while, a few game releases, and some training sessions, but eventually, he became a pretty decent Hardware Engineer.

It wasn’t instant magic, but it was a definite improvement. My hardware development started moving along, and I felt like I was finally making progress again. It just goes to show, sometimes you gotta work with what you’ve got and train your team to get where you need to be.
