exit the game review
Okay, so I’ve been hearing about this “Exit the Game” series for a while now, and I finally decided to give it a shot. I picked up “The Abandoned Cabin” because, well, who doesn’t love a good spooky cabin mystery?
Getting Started
First thing I did was open the box. Inside, there’s a rule book, a deck of cards, some weird little cardboard pieces, and this decoder disc thing. Honestly, it looked a bit intimidating at first.
I read through the rule book, and it was pretty straightforward. Basically, you’re trying to solve puzzles and riddles to “escape” the cabin. You use the cards and the decoder disc to check your answers.
Diving In
I started flipping through the riddle cards. Some of them were easy, like, “Duh, I get that” kind of easy. Others? Totally stumped me. I spent a good 20 minutes just staring at one card, trying to figure out what the heck it wanted from me.
- I drew some stuff out on paper.
- I talked to myself a lot (don’t judge!).
- I even googled a couple of things (I know, I know, cheating, but I was desperate!).
The decoder disc is pretty cool. You line up these symbols based on your answer, and it tells you if you’re right or wrong. It’s like a little magic trick every time you get one right.

The Frustration (and the Triumphs!)
There were definitely moments where I wanted to throw the whole thing across the room. Some of the puzzles were so obscure, I was like, “How is anyone supposed to get this?” But then, when I finally cracked one, I felt like a genius. It’s that “Aha!” moment that makes these games so addictive.
I used the hint cards a few times. They give you little nudges in the right direction without giving away the answer completely. I tried to use them sparingly, but sometimes you just need a little help.
Wrapping Up
It took me a couple of hours, but I finally “escaped” the cabin. I felt pretty proud of myself, even though I definitely bent the rules a little (see: Googling). It was a fun way to spend an afternoon, and it definitely got my brain working.
I’m already thinking about which “Exit the Game” I want to try next. Maybe the one with the pharaoh’s tomb? Or the secret lab? Decisions, decisions…
