Recently, I got the urge to play some old-school video games. But I didn’t want to just sit in front of a TV like in the old days. I wanted to take my gaming on the go. So, I started looking into modding some old game consoles to make them portable. It’s called “portablizing” I found out.

First, I needed to find some retro consoles. I did a bit of searching and found that there are lots of people modding all sorts of different consoles. I saw some really cool projects online, it is all about modding, homebrews, emulation and hacks. And I am going to try these!

Then I started digging around for information. Turns out, there are tons of resources online about modding and portablizing. Lots of people are into this stuff. There are even small businesses that do this kind of work. They will clean up old consoles, replace parts, and even do the modding for you. You can buy consoles that are already fixed up and modded.

Here’s what I did:

• Gathered my materials. I managed to find an old console that wasn’t being used. Then I ordered some parts online – a small screen, a rechargeable battery, some new buttons, and a case to put everything in.
• Took the console apart. This was a bit scary, but I found some guides online that showed me how to do it. I made sure to keep track of all the screws and parts.
• Installed the new screen. This was the trickiest part. I had to solder some wires to connect the screen to the console’s motherboard. It took a few tries, but I finally got it working.
• Added the battery. I found a spot inside the console where the battery would fit. Then I connected it to the power circuit.
• Put everything in the new case. This took some creativity. I had to cut some holes in the case for the screen, buttons, and charging port. But once I got everything in place, it looked pretty sweet.

It took a while, but I finally got my portable console working. Now I can play my favorite retro games anywhere I want. It’s so much fun! If you’re into retro gaming and like tinkering with stuff, I highly recommend trying this out. It’s a really rewarding project.

I spent a lot of time and made some mistakes along the way, but it was totally worth it. Now, I have got a unique, custom-made portable console that is way cooler than anything you can buy in a store.
