game capture hd hardware
I recently got my hands on a piece of hardware called “Game Capture HD”. It sounded interesting, so I decided to give it a try and see what it could do. I started by unboxing it.
First Look
The package seemed pretty standard, nothing too flashy. Inside, I found the device itself, along with a few cables. I noticed it had an HDMI input and an HDMI output, which I figured was for connecting to a TV or monitor. It also had a weird interface labeled as “PCIe 2.0 x1”. I don’t know what it means.
Connecting it up
- I connected my game console to the HDMI input of the Game Capture HD.
- Then, I connected the HDMI output to my TV.
- The “PCIe 2.0 x1” interface, I didn’t touch it.
Powering On

I turned on my console and TV, and everything seemed to work fine. I could see my game on the TV screen. So far, so good.
Figuring it Out
The next step was to figure out how to actually capture the gameplay. I found a piece of paper in the box, that seemed like a manual, but it didn’t explain a lot. I tried to play a game and see what would happen.
Playing the Game
As I played, I was curious to see if the device was doing anything. I didn’t notice any changes on my TV screen, so I assumed it was recording in the background, maybe?
Checking the Results
After playing for a while, I stopped to see if I could find any recorded footage. I didn’t see any indicator on the device or any new files on my console, so I was a bit confused. Maybe it’s a dud, I thought.
Giving Up

After spending some time trying to figure it out without any luck, I decided to give up for now. I put the Game Capture HD back in its box. Maybe I’ll try again later, or ask someone who knows more about this stuff.
Overall Impression
It was a bit of a letdown. I was hoping to easily capture my gameplay, but it turned out to be more complicated than I expected. I need to learn more about the “PCIe 2.0 x1” interface.
End
That’s it for now. I’ll update this post if I make any progress with the Game Capture HD. Stay tuned!
