batman telltale games review

So, I’ve been playing this game, you know, the Batman Telltale one. Yeah, the first one. I saw something online the other day, something about Xbox Games With Gold for January 2020, and it reminded me of this game. I thought, “Why not give it a go again?”

First off, I gotta say, I completely forgot how much I loved these games. I jumped back in, started a new game, and man, it was like seeing an old friend. You get to be Batman, make choices, and those choices, they actually matter. It’s not just about punching bad guys, you know? You gotta think like the Dark Knight himself.

The First Episode

Episode one, “Realm of Shadows”, I kicked it off and got sucked right in. It’s all about this break-in at the mayor’s office. You’re there as both Bruce and Batman, and let me tell you, balancing those two is a trip. You meet Harvey Dent, Selina Kyle, and, of course, good old Alfred.

  • I started off as Bruce, schmoozing at this fundraiser.
  • Then, bam, I’m Batman, chasing down these mercenaries who are trying to steal a data drive.
  • Had a big fight on the rooftops, classic Batman stuff.

The Choices

The big thing with these Telltale games is the choices, right? You’re constantly deciding how to handle things. Do you go in hard as Batman, or try to be more diplomatic as Bruce? Do you trust Harvey, or is he full of it? And Selina, man, she’s always a wild card.

I remember one part where I had to choose whether to save some cop or chase after the bad guys. Tough call. I ended up saving the cop, but I felt it, you know? Every choice feels like it has weight.

The Story

The story in this first season, it’s pretty wild. It goes into the Wayne family history, and let me tell you, it’s not all pretty. There’s corruption, lies, and some seriously messed up stuff. I won’t spoil it, but it really makes you think about who Batman is and why he does what he does.

Overall

Playing through the Batman Telltale game again was a blast. It reminded me why I loved these games in the first place. The choices, the story, the characters, it all comes together to make a really cool experience. If you’ve never played it, I definitely recommend giving it a shot. And if you have played it, well, maybe it’s time to jump back in like I did. You won’t regret it, or at least I certainly don’t.
