frame drops in games toms hardware

So, I’ve been having this super annoying issue with my gaming rig lately. You know how it is, you’re in the middle of a heated match, everything’s going smoothly, and then BAM! The game starts stuttering like crazy. It’s like watching a slideshow instead of playing a game.

I was trying to play some games at 1080p, and I was getting massive frame drops. I mean, we’re talking, like, dropping down to 18 FPS. It was most noticeable in battlefield 1.

I’m not running some ancient potato here, either. I have a gtx 1070 fe, which is a pretty decent card, and my CPU is an i5 4460. I thought this setup could easily handle most games at 1080p, but noooo. It started happening a few days ago when I bought a Gigabyte gtx 970 G1 gaming, replaced my old card. Maybe the old card covered up the problem.

First, I checked the usual suspects. You know, made sure my drivers were up to date, checked for any overheating issues, even dusted out the inside of my PC just in case. Nothing. Still stuttering.

Then I started digging deeper. I monitored my CPU and GPU usage while gaming. Everything seemed normal, no weird spikes or anything. This problem is probably not due to hardware performance.

Next, I tried messing with the in-game settings. Lowering the graphics, turning off VSync, all that jazz. Still no luck. The frame drops were still there, taunting me.

I started thinking maybe it was a specific game issue, so I tried a bunch of different games. Same problem. Stuttering in all of them. Ugh.

Finally, I stumbled upon this forum, and I read about this thing about Nvidia App performance issues. I tried to close the Nvidia App, and it actually helped a little bit, but the problem was still there.

One user mentioned it might be something to do with the PCIe bus. I have no idea what that really means, so I didn’t touch that.

What I Did

  • Updated my graphics drivers.
  • Monitored my CPU and GPU usage.
  • Lowered in-game graphics settings.
  • Tested different games.
  • Closed Nvidia App.

It’s super frustrating, to say the least. It is aware of the issues and is working on fixes, but for now, it recommends a simple workaround. If you are experiencing an Nvidia App performance hit. I’ve spent hours trying to fix this, and I’m still stuck with a stuttering mess. I just want to play my games without feeling like I’m watching a flipbook. If anyone has any ideas, please, for the love of all that is holy, help a fellow gamer out!
