rocksmith guitar game review
Okay, so, I wanted to share my experience with this guitar game called Rocksmith. I’ve been messing around with guitars for a while now, but I’m no rockstar, you know? I figured this game might be a fun way to, like, level up my skills and maybe learn some new songs. And for you guys who’ve never touched a guitar before, I think you will also be interested in this!
First off, I had to get my hands on the game. I saw it was taken off from most places online last year ’cause of some music license stuff, which is a bummer. But then, bam! They put it back up at the end of last year, calling it Rocksmith 2014 Edition REMASTERED LEARN & PLAY now. So, I snagged a copy and got ready to rock.
Now, the cool thing about Rocksmith is that you use a real guitar. I plugged in my electric, but you can use an acoustic or bass too. Once I got everything connected, I started messing around with the different modes.
Gameplay
- Learn a Song: This is where I spent most of my time. You pick a song, and the game shows you what notes and chords to play. It’s like having a virtual guitar teacher, but way less embarrassing than messing up in front of a real person.
- Nonstop Play: This is pretty much what it sounds like. You just play a bunch of songs in a row, no breaks. It’s cool for practice, but I preferred the more focused approach of “Learn a Song.”
- Arcade: This mode has a bunch of mini-games that help you practice different techniques. It’s kinda fun, but not really my thing. I’d rather just play songs, you know?
At first, it was kinda tricky. Getting the timing right and hitting the right notes was a challenge. But the game has this feature where it adjusts the difficulty based on how you’re doing. So, if you’re struggling, it’ll simplify things, and if you’re killing it, it’ll throw more challenging stuff your way.
I started with some easier songs that I already kinda knew. That was a good way to get used to the game’s interface and how it works. Then, I started tackling some new tunes. It was actually pretty cool to learn songs I’d always wanted to play but never had the patience to figure out on my own. It can be a good way to push me to practice. It is super cool to learn the songs I like step by step.

One thing I noticed is that Rocksmith is more of a practice tool than a full-on guitar lesson program. It won’t teach you music theory or proper technique from scratch. But if you already know the basics, it’s a great way to improve and learn new stuff. But you need to search for other learning resources to learn the theory. This may cost you some extra time.
After playing for a few weeks, I definitely felt like my playing had improved. My timing was better, my fingers were faster, and I had a bunch of new songs under my belt. Overall, I’d say Rocksmith is a solid game for anyone who wants to have some fun with their guitar and maybe learn a thing or two along the way. It won’t turn you into a guitar god overnight, but it’s a fun and engaging way to practice and get better. If you are a newbie, just try it! The game is super user-friendly. If you already have some experience, it’s a good choice to expand your song list. I do enjoy playing it and would continue my journey in the game.
But you know what? I’m also curious to hear what other people think about Rocksmith. Did it help you learn? Did you find it fun? Let me know in the comments!
