everdell game review
So I finally got around to playing Everdell the other day, and man, it was quite the experience! I’d heard a lot about it, mostly good things, and it’s been on my list for a while.
First off, I gotta say, the game looks amazing. Seriously, the artwork is just beautiful, and all the little pieces? Super cute. I spent a good chunk of time just looking at everything before we even started playing. They really nailed the whole forest critter vibe.
Getting started with the game
I invited a couple of friends over, and we decided to dive in. Setting up took a little bit, mostly because we were all admiring the components and figuring out where everything went. It felt like we were setting up a little woodland scene right there on my table.
Playing the Game
We jumped into the game, and I was immediately struck by how much it felt like we were actually building something. Each of us started with a basic setup and a few workers, which, by the way, are these adorable little animal figures. We spent the first few rounds placing them around, collecting resources like berries, twigs, resin, and pebbles. It was pretty straightforward, but already I could see the strategy starting to form.
As the seasons progressed in the game, which is such a cool mechanic, we started constructing buildings and recruiting more critters to join our little cities. There’s something satisfying about seeing your city grow from a few basic cards to a bustling little community. I was particularly proud of my university and the little judge I managed to recruit. I swear, that judge added such a distinguished feel to my city.

Challenges and Fun
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were definitely moments where I had to think hard about where to place my workers to get the most out of each season. And let me tell you, those event cards can really throw a wrench in your plans! I had this whole strategy lined up, and then bam, an event card forced me to rethink everything. It was frustrating but in a good way, you know? It kept things interesting.
Wrapping up our game
By the time we reached the final season, my city was looking pretty impressive, if I do say so myself. I had a nice mix of buildings and critters, each one adding to my score in different ways. We tallied up the points, and while I didn’t win, I came in a close second. Honestly, though, it didn’t even matter that much. The whole experience of building and managing my little forest city was so much fun that the final score was just a bonus.
Final Thoughts
After we finished, we spent some time just chatting about the game. We all agreed that Everdell is something special. It’s not just a game; it’s like stepping into another world for a few hours. And the best part? We only scratched the surface. I can already tell that each game is going to be different, with new strategies to explore and new stories to create.
So, yeah, that was my Everdell experience. I’m already looking forward to playing it again. And who knows, maybe next time I’ll actually win!
- Game setup time: A bit lengthy but enjoyable.
- Gameplay: Engaging and strategic, with a great sense of progression.
- Aesthetic: Absolutely top-notch. 10/10 would recommend for the visuals alone.
- Replayability: Seems very high. I’m already planning my next game!
If you’re into board games at all, you gotta give Everdell a try. Trust me, it’s worth it.
