new hunger games reviews
Well, I just watched that new Hunger Games movie, the one they call “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes”. Folks been talkin’ about it, so I figured, why not? Gotta see what all the fuss is about, ya know?
First off, let me tell ya, this movie is long. Near three hours! My old bones started achin’ sittin’ there that long. But hey, it was kinda pretty to look at. Lots of fancy colors and stuff. They spent some money on it, that’s for sure.
Now, about the story… It’s supposed to be about how that mean President Snow fella got to be so mean. See, back in the day, he was just a young fella tryin’ to make somethin’ of himself. And there’s this girl, a singer, and she gets picked for the Hunger Games. He’s supposed to help her win, but things get all mixed up.

- The young fella, Tom Blyth, he plays Snow alright. A bit too pretty-boy for my taste, but he does the job.
- And that girl, Rachel Zegler, she can sing like an angel. But her and Snow, they got this weird kinda…thing goin’ on. Not quite love, not quite hate. Confusin’, I tell ya.
The movie shows you how those Hunger Games started and how they was different back then. Less fancy, more…well, more brutal, I guess. Kids killin’ kids, ain’t nothin’ nice about that. They say it’s “bloodless” but it ain’t exactly sunshine and rainbows neither. Kids dyin’ is kids dyin’, no matter how ya show it.
Some folks sayin’ this movie is real good. They sayin’ it’s a “delightful reentry” to that Panem place. They happy to see more Hunger Games stuff after all these years. Jennifer Lawrence ain’t in this one, though. She done hung up her bow and arrow a long time ago.
But, see, I ain’t so sure. It’s a mixed bag, this movie. Like one of them bags of mixed nuts you get at the store. Some good parts, some not-so-good parts. Some parts make you think, some parts make you wanna scratch your head and say, “Huh?” It’s kinda long and complicated for my old brain to keep up with sometimes.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes made a lot of money at the movies, they say. Millions and millions! People like to watch this stuff, I guess. Even if it makes you a little sad and uncomfortable.
They rate this movie PG-13, which means it ain’t for the little kids. And that’s probably a good thing. Lots of fightin’ and killin’, even if they don’t show all the gory details. It’s enough to make an old lady like me feel a bit queasy.
Some say the story is good, some say it’s not so good. Some say the actors are good, some say they coulda done better. Me? I dunno. I ain’t no fancy movie critic. I just know what I like and what I don’t like.
This movie… well, it’s somethin’ to look at, that’s for sure. And it makes you think a bit about how people get to be the way they are. But it ain’t no feel-good movie, that’s for certain. It’s a long story about tough times and hard choices. And about how even a young fella with a good heart can turn into somethin’ cold and mean. It ain’t the best movie I ever seen, but it ain’t the worst neither.
So, if you like them Hunger Games movies, you might like this one. But don’t go expectin’ a happy endin’. Life ain’t always happy, and neither is this movie. That’s just the way it is, I reckon. It’s rated PG-13 and it’s long, almost three hours, they said. But if you got the time and the stomach for it, give it a watch. You might like it, you might not. But you will have seen something, that’s for sure.
