mysterium game review

Alright, alright, lemme tell ya ’bout this Mysterium game. My grandkids, they got this thing, and we played it last week. Took me a while to figure it out, but I got it now.

So, the story is like this, see? There’s this ghost, right? Stuck in a big old house, and can’t move on. Poor thing. And you, you and the other players, you’re like, spirit detectives or somethin’. Gotta figure out how this ghost died and who done it. Sounds like one of them TV shows my daughter watches all the time.

Now, one person, they gotta be the ghost. They can’t talk, not a word. Just gives you these cards with pictures on ‘em. Crazy pictures, I tell ya. Like, a picture of a clock, and a crow, and maybe a… a… whatchamacallit… a fireplace? And you gotta guess what that ghost is tryin’ to tell ya. It’s like charades, but with weird pictures.

It’s all about figurin’ out who the ghost was, where they got killed, and with what. You know, like in them murder mysteries. Like that Columbo fella always figured out who did the killin’. But this time, you get clues from a ghost, not from no fancy detective. Took me a good long while to understand what them darn pictures meant.

We had to guess, see? First, we gotta figure out the person. Like, was it the cook? The gardener? The old lady who owned the house? Then, we gotta figure out where they got done in. Was it in the kitchen? The garden? Maybe in the scary attic? And then, with what? Was it a knife? Poison? Maybe a heavy candlestick? You know, all them murderin’ things they use.

  • Person – Who got killed?
  • Place – Where did it happen?
  • Weapon – What did they use?

The ghost, they can’t just give you the answer, that’d be too easy. They give you these cards and you gotta use your noodle. And some of them pictures… lord have mercy, they didn’t make no sense. My grandson, he’s a smart one, he figured out a lot of ‘em. But me? I was just guessin’ most of the time.

But then, you know, you start seein’ patterns. Like, if the ghost keeps showin’ you pictures with water, maybe the person got killed near the well or somethin’. Or if they show you lots of green, maybe it was in the garden. It’s like piecin’ together a puzzle, but the pieces are all blurry and strange.

Once everyone figures out their own clues, then we all gotta get together and figure out the whole story. Who killed the ghost, where, and how. It’s a group effort, see? You can’t do it all by yourself. You need everyone working together to crack the case. And if you get it right, the ghost gets to go to the happy place, wherever that is. And you win! Feels good to win, even if you didn’t understand half of what was goin’ on.

Is it a good game? Well, it ain’t checkers, that’s for sure. It’s a bit complicated, took me a while to learn the ropes. But once you get the hang of it, it’s kinda fun. Keeps your brain workin’, that’s for sure. And it’s nice to play somethin’ with the grandkids that ain’t just them video games they always playin’. Gets us all talkin’ and workin’ together, which is more than I can say for most things these days. Plus, the pictures are pretty, even if they don’t always make sense.

So yeah, if you like them mystery games, and you don’t mind a bit of a head-scratcher, then this Mysterium game might be somethin’ you’d like. Just don’t expect it to be easy, ya hear? And don’t go expectin’ no clear answers from that ghost, they’re a tricky bunch, them ghosts.

One last thing, them kids told me that this game is real popular. They say it’s even better than chess, which I don’t believe for a second. Chess is a good game. Been around forever. This Mysterium thing is newfangled, but it ain’t bad. It ain’t bad at all. Just takes some getting used to.

So, there you have it. My take on this Mysterium game. Not too fancy, just the way I see it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some cookies for them grandkids. They deserve it after teachin’ their old grandma how to play this ghost game.
