Alright, so you wanna know about this here “strategy” thing and “game theory”? Sounds fancy, but lemme tell ya, it ain’t that hard. It’s all about figurin’ out what other folks are gonna do, and then doin’ what’s best for you. Like, you know, when you’re playin’ cards with your grandkids, tryin’ to guess if they got a good hand or not. That’s kinda what this “game theory” is all about.

This fella, Joel Watson, he wrote a book about it. Strategy: An Introduction to Game Theory, it’s called. Folks seem to like it, sayin’ it’s easy to understand. Well, I ain’t read it myself, mind you, but I heard it’s got short chapters, which is good ‘cause who wants to read a whole bunch of long, windy stuff? Nobody, that’s who.

Now, they talk about somethin’ called “extensive form.” Sounds complicated, but it just means lookin’ at the whole game, step by step. Like, if you’re bakin’ a pie, you gotta get the ingredients, then mix ’em, then bake it, right? You can’t just skip steps. Same thing in these here games. You gotta think about what happens first, then what happens next, and so on.

  • First, you gotta know what the game is.
  • Then, you gotta think about what other folks might do.
  • Then, you gotta figure out what’s the best thing for you to do, knowin’ what they might do.

It ain’t always easy, though. Sometimes you gotta guess, and sometimes you gotta take a chance. Like when you’re playin’ bingo. You don’t know what numbers they’re gonna call, but you gotta pick your cards anyway. That’s a game, and you gotta be smart to win. Same thing in life. You gotta be smart, think ahead, you know?

This book, it also talks about “psychological aspects.” That just means how folks think. Are they gonna be greedy? Are they gonna be scared? Are they gonna try to trick ya? You gotta think about all that stuff, if you wanna win.

What I Understand About Game Theory

So, from what I gather, this game theory ain’t just for fancy folks in suits. It’s for everybody. It’s about makin’ decisions, and that’s somethin’ we all do every day. Should you plant your tomatoes early this year, or wait a bit? Should you buy that new tractor, or stick with the old one? These are all “games” in a way, ‘cause you gotta think about what might happen and choose the best thing to do.

And it ain’t always about winnin’ everything, neither. Sometimes it’s about not losin’ too much. Like, if you know a storm’s comin’, you ain’t gonna leave your chickens out in the yard, are ya? You’re gonna bring ’em inside, even if it’s a little bit of trouble. That’s a smart move, see? You’re protectin’ what you got.

This Watson fella, he made his book easy for folks to learn. He added stuff to make it clearer, they say. That’s good, ‘cause ain’t nobody got time for somethin’ that’s too hard to figure out. Life’s already complicated enough, ain’t it? This here game theory, seems like it’s tryin’ to make things a little simpler, help you make better choices, and that’s always a good thing.

So, if you’re lookin’ to learn how to make better decisions, maybe you wanna check out this game theory stuff. Sounds like it might be helpful, even for us regular folks. Just remember, it’s all about thinkin’ ahead, figurin’ out what others might do, and then doin’ what’s best for you. And don’t be afraid to take a chance now and then, long as you do your best to understand it, just like in any good card game or a bake-off at the county fair!

Game theory in simple words

If I have to explain it in the most simple way, it’s like this. Imagine you and your neighbor, both of ya wanna sell eggs at the * both of you bring too many eggs, the price will go down, and both of ya won’t make much money. But if one of you brings fewer eggs, then the price stays up, and you make more. Game theory helps you figure out how many eggs to bring, so that you make the most money, even without talking to your neighbor. It’s all about figuring out what the best move is, based on what you think other people will do.

Now, I heard some folks use this game theory for big things, like wars and business deals. But the way I see it, it’s just plain common sense most of the times. You just gotta think ahead and try to be a little bit smarter than the next fella. That is what it seems to me.
