can hardware video game recorders also record movies

Alright, let’s talk about them video game thingamajigs, the ones that record stuff. You know, the young’uns are always playin’ with ’em. Can them things also record movies? Well, lemme tell ya what I know, or what I think I know, anyways.

Can these hardware thingies record movies, or just games? That’s what we’re tryin’ to figure out, ain’t it? Now, from what I hear, these recorders, they’re mostly for games. You know, like when the kids are shootin’ at aliens or drivin’ cars real fast on the screen? Yeah, that kinda stuff. They can record that, for sure.

Some of them, they say they can record for a long time. Like, two hours! That’s a long time to be starin’ at a screen, if you ask me. But I guess the young’uns, they like it. They can record it all, the shootin’, the drivin’, the whole shebang. And some, they even let you choose how good the picture looks. You know, like them fancy TVs, the ones with the real clear picture? They call it “HD” or somethin’. These recorders, they can do that too, sometimes.

But movies? That’s a different story. See, them movie folks, they’re real protective of their stuff. They don’t want you copyin’ their movies, you see. So, they put this thing on it, a “HDCP” thingy, they call it. It’s like a lock, I guess. And these game recorders, they can’t always break that lock. So, if you’re tryin’ to record a movie you bought, or somethin’ from that “Netflix” thing, it might not work. It’s like tryin’ to open a door with the wrong key, you know?

  • Game Recording is Easy: These things are made for games. They record ’em good, long, and sometimes even in that fancy “HD” quality.
  • Movies are Tricky: Because of that “HDCP” thing, recordin’ movies ain’t always possible. The movie folks, they don’t want you copyin’ their stuff.
  • Other Stuff? Maybe: Now, some folks say you can record other things too. Like, if you got one of them fancy cameras, the ones the professionals use, you might be able to record from that. But that’s gettin’ complicated, ain’t it?

Now, if you’re just wantin’ to record your games, then these recorders are just the ticket. They come with their own stuff, software they call it, that makes it easy. But if you’re tryin’ to do fancy stuff, like recordin’ movies or mixin’ in sound from different places, well, you might need somethin’ more. Somethin’ called a “capture card”, I heard. That’s for the real serious folks, the ones who do this for a livin’, I guess.

And talkin’ about quality, if you want that real good picture, you need a good recorder. And space, lots of space, on your computer to save all that stuff. Some say you need a “SSD“. Don’t ask me what that means, it sounds fancy. And you need a big hard drive, they call it. Like, two terabytes! That’s a lot of space. Enough to store a whole lotta games, and maybe a few pictures of the grandkids too.

Some of these recorders, they can do tricks. They can record the last few minutes of your game, even if you didn’t tell it to start recordin’. That’s handy, I guess, if you did somethin’ real cool and you wanna show it off. They call it “record in background mode” or somethin’. Sounds fancy, but it just means it’s always watchin’, I reckon.

So, can these hardware video game recorders record movies? Well, it ain’t as simple as just pressin’ a button. For games, yes, easy peasy. For movies, maybe not so much. It all depends on that “HDCP” thing and what you’re tryin’ to record. If you are just trying to capture gameplay, you are good to go. If you are trying to be fancy and record everything under the sun, maybe you need more than just the basic stuff.

But for just plain old game recordin’, these things work just fine. And that’s all most folks need ’em for, ain’t it? The young’uns and their games, always somethin’ new.
