best 2 player strategy games
Alright, let’s talk about them best 2 player strategy games, you know, the ones you can play with your husband or your neighbor, that kinda thing. I ain’t no fancy gamer, but I know what’s fun and what ain’t.
So, you’re lookin’ for a game for just two folks, huh? Maybe you wanna kill some time with your grandkid, or maybe your husband’s finally off the couch and wants to do somethin’ other than watchin’ that darned TV. Whatever the reason, two player games are good for that, you know, just you and another person, that’s all you need.
Now, some folks, they like them thinkin’ games, the strategy ones, you know? Not just shootin’ and runnin’ around like them young’uns do. We want games where you gotta use your brain a little, plan things out, like how you plan your garden or when to cook the pot roast so it’s ready for supper.
- One game I heard about is called Mindustry. Sounds kinda complicated, with all that “industry” talk, but my nephew says it’s about buildin’ stuff and defendin’ it. Like buildin’ a fence around your chickens, but with more machines and less feathers.
- Then there’s this Battle for Wesnoth. Castles and armies, sounds like somethin’ outta them history books. My husband, he likes them war movies, so maybe he’d like this one. We can pretend we’re kings and queens, fightin’ over the last piece of apple pie.
And cards! Don’t forget about the card games! My grandma, she used to play this game called Cribbage. Kept score with pegs on a board, real fancy-like. She said it made her think, kept her sharp. There’s also Gin Rummy. Easy to learn, but hard to master, like makin’ a good batch of biscuits. And Golf, the card game, not the one with the clubs. Never played it myself, but I heard it’s good with two.
Now, someone told me about area control games. Sounds complicated, right? But it’s like dividin’ up the land for farmin’, each person gettin’ their own patch. Lords of Hellas, that’s what they called it. Sounds scary, with all that “hell” stuff, but I guess it’s about takin’ over territory. Like when you’re tryin’ to get the best spot at the farmer’s market, but on a bigger scale. But, you know, some games, like Risk, they ain’t so good with just two people. Too much empty space, like a big empty field with nothin’ to plant.

And don’t forget them old-timey games, the ones that been around forever. Chess, you know, with the kings and queens and them little horsies. Checkers, simple enough for a child, but still fun for us old folks. And Go, that one from Japan, I think. Never played it, but I heard it’s like checkers on steroids, all them little black and white stones. My neighbor, Mrs. Henderson, she plays chess every Wednesday with her son. Says it keeps her mind active, better than crossword puzzles.
Abstract strategy games, they call ’em. No fancy pictures or characters, just pure strategy. Like plannin’ your crops, you don’t need a picture to know you gotta plant the corn in the sunny spot. It’s all about thinkin’ ahead, figurin’ out your next move, and tryin’ to outsmart your opponent. And ain’t that what life’s all about anyway?
So there you have it, a whole mess of games you can play with just two people. Whether you like buildin’ stuff, fightin’ battles, or just thinkin’ real hard, there’s a game out there for you. And who knows, maybe you’ll even beat your husband for once! Now go on, find a game, and have some fun. You deserve it.
Remember, it ain’t about winnin’ or losin’, it’s about spendin’ time with someone you care about, or maybe just beatin’ someone you don’t like so much! Just kiddin’…mostly. Now, go on, get to playin’!
