azul game review

Alright, let’s talk about this Azul game. My grandkids, they got all sorts of fancy games, but this Azul one, it kinda stuck with me. Don’t get me wrong, I ain’t no expert or nothin’, but I can tell ya if somethin’s fun or just plain silly.

So, what’s this Azul all about? Well, it’s like, you’re makin’ a pretty wall with these shiny little… things. They look like candy, but don’t try eatin’ ‘em, learned that the hard way! You pick these shiny bits from these… circles, I guess you’d call ‘em. And then you gotta put ‘em on your own little board, tryin’ to make rows and columns of the same color. Sounds easy, right? Hah! Don’t you be fooled.

First off, you gotta be thinkin’ ahead. Can’t just grab any ol’ shiny bit. Gotta think about what colors you need, what your neighbor might be needin’… it’s like plannin’ a big ol’ family dinner, but with colors instead of casseroles. And if you take too many of one color, well, you get penalized! Them shiny bits end up on the floor, and that ain’t good for nobody. They call it the “floor line”. Sounds fancy, but it just means you messed up, see?

I played this game with my grandkids, and even with my old eyes, I could see them little colors. We played it with three of us, then with four. The more folks playin’, the more… well, the more chaotic it gets! But in a good way, you know? Like a hen house at feeding time, everybody cluckin’ and grabbin’.

  • Two players: My grandson tells me it’s real strategic with just two people. Like chess, but with pretty colors. Every move counts, he says.
  • Three or four players: This is where the fun starts, in my opinion. More folks, more chances to mess with each other, but in a friendly way, of course.

Now, some games, they take forever. You start playin’ after lunch and you’re still at it when the cows come home. This Azul ain’t like that. It’s quick. You can play a game in, what, half an hour? Maybe a little longer if you’re slow like me. But that’s good, ‘cause sometimes you just want a quick game, somethin’ to do before the evenin’ news comes on.

What makes this Azul so good, you ask? Well, it ain’t complicated, that’s for sure. No fancy rules you gotta memorize. Just pickin’ colors and tryin’ to make a pretty wall. But it’s also… thinky. You gotta be plannin’ your moves, watchin’ what everyone else is doin’. And it’s pretty, too! Them shiny bits, they catch the light. Makes you feel like you’re makin’ somethin’ special, even if it’s just a bunch of colored squares.

My honest opinion? This Azul game, it’s a good’un. It ain’t gonna rot your brain like them video games the kids are always playin’. It’s somethin’ you can play with the whole family, young and old. And it’s fun! That’s the most important thing, right? If a game ain’t fun, then what’s the point? So, if you’re lookin’ for a new game to try, give this Azul a whirl. You might just like it, just like this old lady did.

Replayability? Oh yeah, you can play this game over and over. Every game is different, see? ‘Cause the colors come out different, and folks pick different things. It ain’t like those games where you play it once and you’re done. This Azul, it’ll keep you entertained for a good long while.

So that’s my take on this Azul thing. Go get yourself one and you’ll see what this old lady is talking about. It is just good, clean fun, that is it.
