parks board game review
Alright, let’s talk about this here “Parks” board game, you know, the one with all them pretty pictures. My grandkids got it, and we played it last Sunday after church. Now, I ain’t no fancy game reviewer or nothin’, just tellin’ it like it is, like I always do.
First off, what’s this game all about? Well, it’s about them National Parks, you know, the places with all the trees and mountains. You gotta walk your little people around and collect stuff, like rocks and wood, and then trade ’em in to see the Parks. Sounds simple enough, right?
The game box says it’s for 1 to 5 players and for folks 10 years old and up. My youngest grandkid, little Timmy, he’s 8, but he played along just fine. It takes about, oh, I don’t know, maybe an hour to play. Sometimes a bit more if we’re all yappin’ and whatnot. The fella who made it, some fella named Henry Audubon, he sure did a good job with the pictures. They’re real purdy. The game company, Keymaster Games, they printed it all up nice and shiny.
- The Good Stuff
Now, what do I like about this here game? Well, like I said, them pictures are somethin’ else. Makes you wanna go see them Parks for yourself. And it ain’t too hard to learn, even for an old woman like me. You just move your people, collect stuff, trade it in, and look at pretty pictures. It’s a nice, relaxing game. We ain’t fightin’ or yellin’ at each other while playing. It’s nice and peaceful, you know. And the pieces are good quality too, nice and thick. Little Timmy, he chews on everything, and even he couldn’t mess these up.
The game play is easy. You move your people down a trail and each spot you land on, you do somethin’. Sometimes you get wood, sometimes you get rocks, sometimes you get to see a Park. And sometimes you get nothin’ at all, which is just like life, ain’t it? You gotta collect enough stuff to see the Parks, and each Park gives you points. Person with the most points at the end wins. Simple as that.

- The Not-So-Good Stuff
Now, nothin’s perfect, right? So, what don’t I like? Well, sometimes it feels a little too easy, you know? Like there ain’t much thinkin’ involved. Just move and collect, move and collect. My oldest grandson, Mark, he likes them complicated games with all the strategy and whatnot. He said this one was a bit too simple for him. And sometimes, the trail kinda feels the same every time you play. Wish there was more different paths you could take.
Another thing, those little resource tokens, the wood and rocks, they’re kinda small. My old fingers have a hard time pickin’ ’em up sometimes. And that little camera token, it’s real easy to lose. We spent like 10 minutes lookin’ for it under the table last time. Lost it right amongst all them crumbs and dust bunnies. And if you got someone who thinks too much about their turn this game can take for ever to play. We all know someone like that. They just sit there and look at the board for 10 minutes before they make a move. Drives me crazy! Just move your piece already.
Overall though, it’s a nice game. It’s pretty to look at, easy to play, and it’s a good way to spend an hour with the family. Ain’t gonna rot your brain or nothin’. If you’re lookin’ for a game that’s relaxing and fun, this one’s a good choice. Just don’t expect no big brain challenges or nothin’. And keep an eye on them little pieces!
So, that’s my review. Not fancy, but honest. Now go on and enjoy your game, and don’t forget to appreciate them National Parks. They’re somethin’ special, just like this here game.
