the hunger games: the ballad of songbirds and snakes review
Alright, so I went to see this movie, you know, the one with all the young folks fightin’ – “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” Heard folks talkin’ about it, so I figured, why not? Gotta say, it was a long one, near three hours I think. My old bones started achin’ a bit, but hey, the popcorn was good.
Now, this ain’t like them other Hunger Games movies, not exactly. This one’s about a young fella, Tom somethin’-or-other, plays this Coriolanus Snow fella. He’s supposed to be smart, a real go-getter, tryin’ to make somethin’ of himself. And there’s this girl, Rachel, she plays Lucy Gray Baird. She’s from District 12, you know, the coal minin’ place, like that Katniss girl from before. These two, they got this… thing goin’ on. Kinda like love, kinda like somethin’ else, hard to say. They sure do bicker a lot, though.
- The movie, it’s long, like I said. But it keeps you watchin’, even if you don’t always understand what’s goin’ on.
- Lots of talkin’ in this one. Folks schemin’ and plannin’ and whatnot. Not as much action as I expected, but it gets there eventually.
- The kids fightin’… that part’s still sad, just like before. Makes you think, you know? About how lucky we are, even if we ain’t got much.
This Coriolanus fella, he’s supposed to be helpin’ Lucy Gray in the Games. He’s her mentor, they call it. But it’s more than that, see? He’s tryin’ to win too, tryin’ to get his family outta the dumps. And she’s just tryin’ to survive. It’s a tough spot for both of ’em.
The actual Hunger Games part, that’s not the whole movie, you know? It’s like, part of it, but there’s more to the story. It’s about how this Coriolanus fella becomes… well, I guess he becomes the bad guy later on, right? This movie shows you how he got there. It ain’t pretty, that’s for sure. He does some things… makes you shake your head, makes you wonder what people are willin’ to do for power.
Now, Rachel, the girl playin’ Lucy Gray, she sings a lot. Got a pretty voice, I guess. But her talkin’… sometimes it’s kinda funny. She’s got this accent, comes and goes, like she can’t decide where she’s from. Felt a bit… off, you know? Like when my grandson tries to talk all fancy, but he just sounds silly.

I heard some folks say this movie made a lot of money, even though it didn’t start out so strong. Guess people like these Hunger Games stories. Me? I don’t know. It’s entertainin’, sure. But it’s also kinda… dark. Makes you think about the world, about how things ain’t always fair. And it makes you wonder about folks like Coriolanus Snow. How does a young fella, with all that potential, end up so… twisted?
Overall, I’d say it was a decent movie, long but kept my attention most of the time. If you liked the other Hunger Games movies, you’ll probably like this one too. Just don’t expect it to be all action and explosions. This one’s more about… the choices people make. And how those choices can change everything. And that boy, Tom Blyth, and that gal, Rachel Zegler, they did a good job, even if that accent was all over the place. They made me care about what happened to them, even when I didn’t like what they were doin’. And that, I reckon, is the sign of a good story, even if it makes you a little sad and a little bit mad.
So yeah, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” It’s a mouthful, ain’t it? Go see it if you want, but bring a cushion for your behind, ‘cause you’ll be sittin’ a spell.
