space engineers game review
Well now, let me tell ya ’bout this here Space Engineers game. My grandson, he’s always playin’ it, so I figured I’d take a gander myself.
First off, it ain’t no easy game, that’s for sure. You gotta build stuff, you know? Spaceships and stations and whatnot. It’s like tinkerin’ with them erector sets, but way fancier. You start with nothin’, just a little landin’ gear thingy, and you gotta mine and build and build some more. It’s a whole lotta work, I tell ya.
My grandson, he says it’s a “sandbox” game. Means you can do whatever you want, I guess. You can build a giant spaceship, or a little tiny one. You can make a big ol’ station, or just a little shack in space. It’s up to you. But lemme tell ya, buildin’ stuff in space ain’t easy. You gotta worry ’bout gravity and oxygen and all sorts of things. It’s enough to make your head spin.
Now, you can play by yourself, or you can play with other folks online. My grandson, he likes playin’ with his friends. They build all sorts of crazy contraptions together. They make spaceships that look like chickens, and stations that look like giant robots. It’s kinda silly, but they seem to have fun.
- Buildin’ stuff: That’s the main thing. You gotta mine resources and then use them to build spaceships and stations.
- Explorin’: You can fly around in space and explore different planets and asteroids. It’s kinda pretty, I guess, all them stars and stuff.
- Fightin’: Sometimes you gotta fight other players, or them automated turrets. My grandson, he’s always complainin’ ’bout them turrets. Says they’re too hard to beat.
The game, it’s been around for a while now. My grandson says it was in “early access” for years. That means they were still workin’ on it, I think. And it shows, ya know? Sometimes things don’t work right, and sometimes the game crashes. It can be a bit frustrating, I tell ya.

But when it works, it’s kinda fun. There’s somethin’ satisfyin’ ’bout buildin’ a big ol’ spaceship and flyin’ it around. And it’s kinda cool to see what other folks have built. Some of them contraptions are real impressive, I gotta say.
Now, my grandson, he says the single-player ain’t as fun as playin’ with other folks. He says it gets lonely just buildin’ stuff by yourself. And he says them computers, they ain’t too smart. They just keep sendin’ them same old turrets after ya. Gets borin’ after a while, he says.
But if you like buildin’ stuff, and you don’t mind a bit of a challenge, then you might like this here Space Engineers game. Just be prepared to spend a lotta time learnin’ how to do things. And don’t get too frustrated when things go wrong, ’cause they will. That’s just the way it is with these computer games, I reckon.
Folks say it takes a long time to see everything this game has to offer. Like, 19 hours or somethin’. That’s a lot of time, if you ask me. But my grandson, he’s probably spent way more than that playin’ it. He just loves buildin’ stuff, that boy.
And seems like some folks don’t like this game much, sayin’ there are big problems with it. But heck, my grandson seems happy enough, even though he complains about those darn turrets all the time. I guess it just depends on what you like.
So, there ya have it. My take on this here Space Engineers thing. It ain’t perfect, but it ain’t half bad either. Just don’t expect it to be easy, and don’t expect everything to work all the time. And if you see my grandson online, tell him to stop buildin’ them silly chicken spaceships and come eat his dinner.
Final words, it’s a game about buildin’ in space. If that sounds like your cup of tea, give it a try. If not, well, there’s plenty of other games out there. Just don’t come cryin’ to me if you get stuck.
