review on the hunger games
Alright, let’s talk about this Hunger Games thing, you know, the movie everyone’s been yapping about. I ain’t no fancy movie critic or nothin’, just a regular person tellin’ it like it is.
First off, that Jennifer Lawrence girl, she’s somethin’ else. Real strong, real tough, just like my old rooster back on the farm, always ready for a fight. She plays this Katniss girl, and let me tell ya, this Katniss, she’s got guts. Big time guts.
So, the whole story is about these games, right? The Hunger Games. Sounds awful, don’t it? And it is. They take these young kids, boys and girls, and throw ’em in an arena to fight to the death. Lord have mercy! It’s just plain barbaric, makes my stomach turn just thinkin’ about it.
- They got this President Snow fella, real piece of work he is. He’s the one callin’ the shots, makin’ these kids kill each other. Says it’s for control, to keep folks in line. Well, I say it’s just plain cruel, no two ways about it.
- And the arena, it’s like a whole ‘nother world. Forests, deserts, all kinds of crazy stuff. They even got these made-up creatures, things you ain’t never seen before. It’s all very… what’s the word? Spectacular? Yeah, but in a scary, messed-up kinda way.
Now, the book, I hear it’s even better than the movie. Folks say it’s real gripping, keeps you up all night reading. I ain’t much of a reader myself, my eyes ain’t what they used to be, but my grandbaby, she read it and told me all about it. She said it’s deep, makes you think about things. About violence, and control, and how people treat each other. Stuff like that.
The movie, though, it’s got its good parts and its bad parts. Like I said, Jennifer Lawrence, she’s amazing. But some of the other stuff, it felt a little… cheesy, yeah, that’s the word. Like they were trying too hard to make it exciting, but it just ended up feelin’ fake. And some of them special effects, they were alright, but nothin’ to write home about.

But the main thing, the thing that sticks with ya, is the violence. It’s hard to watch, seeing these kids fightin’ and dyin’. Makes you wonder what kind of world we live in, where people think this kind of stuff is entertainment. It ain’t right, I tell ya, it just ain’t right.
Still, the movie got me thinkin’. About how easy it is for people in power to control others, how they use fear and violence to keep folks down. And about how important it is to fight back, to stand up for what’s right, even when it’s scary. Katniss, she did that, and that’s why she’s a hero, even if it’s just in a movie.
So, would I recommend The Hunger Games? Well, it ain’t for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. But if you can stomach the violence, and if you want a movie that makes you think, then yeah, I guess I would. Just don’t expect it to be all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a dark story, a tough story, but it’s a story worth tellin’. And Jennifer Lawrence, well, she’s just a darn good actress, no matter what she’s in.
That Gary Ross fella who directed it, he did a decent job I reckon. But I still think the book might be better. That’s what folks say anyhow. They say it makes you feel all sorts of things, and that’s something important these days, ain’t it?
Overall, it’s a strong movie, you know, for a teen movie or a sci-fi movie or whatever you want to call it. And this Collins writer…she did good work, even if the story is real hard to hear sometimes. This ain’t just kids fighting; it’s about how the whole shebang is run and how folks try to live in a world turned mean.
