psone strategy games

Alright, let’s gab a bit about them PSone strategy games, you know, the ones them youngsters used to play on that gray box thingy. I ain’t no expert, but I seen my grandkids fiddlin’ with it, and lemme tell ya, some of them games got me hooked too, even if I didn’t understand half the stuff goin’ on.

First off, there’s this Final Fantasy Tactics game. Now, that one’s a bit tricky. It’s got all these little people movin’ around on a grid, like a checkerboard but fancier. You gotta think real hard, like plannin’ where to plant your corn so the crows don’t get it. My grandson, he’d be yellin’ at the screen, somethin’ about “mages” and “knights.” Sounded like a bunch of hooey to me, but he sure loved it.

  • Command & Conquer: This one’s got tanks and soldiers and whatnot. Reminds me of them war movies on the TV, all boom boom boom. You build stuff and then send it off to fight the other guys. Simple enough, even for an old gal like me.
  • Warcraft II: Now, this one’s got orcs and humans. I don’t know what an orc is, looks like a big green fella. Always fightin’, them two groups. My granddaughter, she liked this one, said it was like a fairy tale but with more fightin’.
  • Civilization II: This one’s different. You ain’t just fightin’; you’re buildin’ a whole dang civilization! Like startin’ from scratch, plantin’ crops, buildin’ houses, the whole shebang. It’s kinda like what my grandpa did when he came to this country, only you do it with buttons and a screen.

Then there’s Worms Armageddon. Now, that’s a funny one. Little worms fightin’ each other with bazookas and dynamite! It’s silly, but it’s fun. Reminds me of them cartoons they show on Saturday mornings.

Them games, they ain’t just shootin’ and yellin’; you gotta think. It’s like plannin’ a big ol’ family dinner. You gotta figure out who sits where, what food to make, and how to keep Uncle Joe from arguin’ with Aunt Sue. These strategy games, they’re the same, only with more swords and tanks, less mashed potatoes.

I heard tell there’s another one called X-COM: Terror from the Deep. Never seen it myself, but my neighbor’s boy, he says it’s about fightin’ aliens under the sea. Sounds scary, all them monsters lurkin’ in the dark. Reminds me of that time a snake got into the cellar, scared the bejeebers outta me.

And let’s not forget that Civilization 6, even though it ain’t on the PSone. Them youngsters, they’re still playin’ these kind of games, buildin’ their empires and fightin’ their wars. It’s like they never grow up, always wantin’ to be the boss.

Some folks say these games are just for kids, but I don’t think so. They make you use your brain, and that’s a good thing, even if you’re old as dirt like me. Keeps the mind sharp, ya know? Like doin’ crossword puzzles, but with more explosions.

Anyway, that’s my two cents on them PSone strategy games. They’re fun, they’re challenging, and they keep them youngsters outta trouble, mostly. And sometimes, they even teach an old lady a thing or two. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about strategy got me thinkin’ about what to cook tonight. Maybe I’ll try somethin’ new, be a little bit strategic in the kitchen, you know?
