ps2 best strategy games
Alright, alright, let’s talk about them PlayStay-shun 2 games, the ones where you gotta use your brain, not just jump around like a monkey. Them strategy games, they call ‘em. I tell ya, some of ‘em are harder than milkin’ a cow with arthritis, but they sure do get you thinkin’.
Now, I ain’t no fancy gamer, but I’ve seen my share of these things. My grandkids, they’re always playin’ somethin’ or other, and sometimes I sit and watch ‘em. Gets kinda loud sometimes, all that bangin’ and boomin’, but some of them games, they got that somethin’ special.
One game, they call it… Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Now, I ain’t sure if that’s really a strategy game, but my grandson says it is, ‘cause you gotta plan stuff, you know? Like how you gonna steal that car, or where you gonna hide from the police. It’s a big game, that’s for sure. Lots of drivin’ and shootin’ and whatnot. Keeps them boys busy for hours, I tell ya. Don’t know how they remember all them buttons.
Then there’s this other one… Civilization somethin’ or other. My granddaughter, she plays that one. It’s all about buildin’ stuff, like cities and armies and such. You gotta manage your resources, make sure you got enough food and money and all that. Looks complicated to me, all them little menus and numbers. But she seems to like it, spendin’ hours lookin’ at that screen.
There’s one more that comes to mind… Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. This one is somethin’ else, I tell ya. Full of them cartoon characters and big battles. My grandson says it’s a “tactical RPG,” whatever that means. You gotta move your little guys around on a grid and fight them bad guys. Seems like there’s a lot of thinkin’ involved, where to move your guys, which one to attack first. And them little guys, they got all sorts of special powers and abilities. It’s a whole different language, all them numbers and stats, but these kids, they eat it up.

And oh, there’s one more them boys been fussin’ about, somethin’ about Front Mission 4. I hear it’s got big robots fightin’ each other. Them robots, they call ’em “Wanzers,” I think. Sounds like a lot of noise to me, but they say it’s got a good story and you gotta be smart about how you use your robots. You can’t just go blastin’ everything, gotta think about your strategy, you know?
Now, I ain’t gonna pretend I understand all the details. These games, they’re too fancy for an old woman like me. But I can see why the kids like ‘em. They’re challengin’, you know? They make you think. And sometimes, that’s a good thing, even if it makes your head hurt a little.
One time, I even tried playin’ one of them strategy games myself. It was somethin’ with buildin’ a city. Well, let me tell you, it weren’t pretty. I couldn’t figure out how to get them little people to do what I wanted. They just stood around starin’ at me, or wanderin’ off into the woods. After a while, I just gave up and went back to knittin’. That’s more my speed.
But I still watch the grandkids play sometimes. And I ask them questions, even if they roll their eyes and tell me I wouldn’t understand. Maybe I don’t understand all the fancy stuff, but I get the basic idea. It’s about plannin’ and thinkin’ ahead. And that’s somethin’ we can all use a little more of, whether we’re playin’ games or just livin’ life.
If you want to find more of these games, my grandson said there are places on the internet where people talk about them. He showed me somethin’ called Metacritic, which has a whole list of PS2 strategy games, all rated and reviewed. There are also YouTube videos, apparently where people explain how to play these games and which ones are the best. It’s a whole different world out there.
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Maybe not strategy, but lots of planning!)
- Civilization games (Building and managing)
- Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (Tactical RPG, lots of characters)
- Front Mission 4 (Big robots and battles)
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to keep your brain busy, maybe give one of them PS2 strategy games a try. Just don’t expect me to understand how to play ‘em. I’ll stick to watchin’, thank you very much.
