ransom notes game review

Alright, let’s talk about this “Ransom Notes” game, you know, the one with all them little word magnets. I ain’t no fancy reviewer or nothin’, just tellin’ it like it is.

So, you get this box, right? Says on it “Ransom Notes,” and somethin’ about bein’ for grown-ups, 17 and older. Now, I reckon that’s ’cause some of them words they give ya ain’t exactly Sunday school material. But, if you got young’uns around, you can just yank them saucy ones out, no biggie.

They give ya these little trays, six of ’em, for holdin’ the words. Says it’s for three to six folks to play. Me, I played it with my sister and her kids – well, the older ones anyways. The little tykes, they just ended up stickin’ the magnets on the fridge.

What’s the game all about then? Well, it’s like this: you draw a card, and it’s got some kinda crazy thing written on it. Like, “Tell someone you clogged their toilet at a party.” See? Told ya it was a bit wild.

  • Then, you gotta use them word magnets to make up an answer.
  • You ain’t got a whole heap of words to pick from, so you gotta get creative.
  • And that’s where the fun starts, seein’ what kinda wacky stuff folks come up with.

Now, the box says this game is “ridiculous,” and I gotta say, that’s about right. Some of the answers folks come up with, they’ll make you laugh ’til your sides hurt. Other times, you’ll just scratch your head and wonder where in tarnation they got that idea from.

My sister, she’s a real whiz at this game. She come up with some doozies, I tell ya. Me? I ain’t always so quick on the draw. Sometimes, I just stare at them magnets like a cow lookin’ at a new gate. But even when I don’t win, it’s still a hoot.

Is it hard to play? Naw, it ain’t rocket science. Even I can figure it out, and I ain’t exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer. You just pickin’ words and makin’ sentences, that’s all. But, and here’s the thing, it can get your brain workin’ harder than you think. Specially if you ain’t got no inspiration right off the bat.

The young’uns, they tried playin’, but they didn’t really get the hang of it. Too busy stickin’ “cat” and “dog” together, mostly. So, I reckon that age thing on the box, it’s got some truth to it.

I played this game a few times now, with different folks. And every time, it’s been a good time. It’s one of them games you can just pull out when you got company over, and everyone can have a laugh. It don’t take forever to play, neither, which is good ’cause some folks got the attention span of a gnat.

So, what’s the bottom line? Well, if you like games that are silly and make you think a little bit, then “Ransom Notes” is worth a look-see. It ain’t gonna change your life or nothin’, but it’ll give you a good chuckle, and that’s worth somethin’ these days, ain’t it? It ain’t perfect, mind you. Sometimes you just don’t have the right words and you’re stuck. But that’s part of the fun, I guess.

And that’s all I gotta say about that. Go on, give it a try. You might just surprise yourself with what you come up with.
