fun review games for high school

Well now, if you’re a teacher lookin’ for some fun games to review stuff in high school, I got a few ideas for ya! Now, I ain’t no expert or nothin’, but these games work pretty darn well, and kids seem to love ’em. I’ll tell you about some games that get the kids up and movin’ around, laughin’, and learnin’. I reckon you’ll find somethin’ you can use here. So, let’s dive right in!

1. Pictionary Review Game

This one here’s a classic. If you ain’t never played Pictionary before, you’re missin’ out. It’s real simple. You split the class into groups of 4 students, and then pair ‘em up in teams of two. One of the pair is the “drawer”, and the other one’s gotta guess what they’re drawin’. Now, you give ‘em a card with a term or concept—like a history event, vocabulary word, or even a famous person—and they gotta draw it in under a minute. The rest of the team tries to guess what it is. Now, if you can’t draw worth a lick, well, that just makes it more fun! The students sure think so, anyway.

2. Battleship Game

Here’s one that’ll get the students riled up. It’s a bit like the ol’ Battleship game you might’ve played as a kid, but we’re makin’ it school-friendly. You divide the class into two or three teams, and each team has to answer questions to “hit” the other team’s ships. Students can throw paper balls or something to represent their shots, and they get extra points if they hit an enemy ship. Let me tell you, when the kids get into it, you’ll hear all sorts of excitement and shouting. Sometimes they even shout the answers for the other team, but hey, it’s all part of the fun!

3. Friendly Feud

If you’ve ever watched that TV show, “Family Feud”, you know how fun it can be. Well, we do a version of that in the classroom called “Friendly Feud”. You split the class into two teams, and ask ‘em questions about the subject you’re reviewin’. They take turns giving answers, and the team that gets the most points wins. The kids sure do get competitive with this one, but it helps ‘em remember what they’ve learned. It’s a lot of laughs and a lot of fun!

4. Around the World

Now, Around the World is a real oldie but a goodie. You start by having all your students stand up in a line, and then call up the first two. You ask ‘em a question, and the first one to answer it correctly gets to move to the next round, and the loser sits back down. Then, the next student in line steps up to challenge the winner. The game keeps goin’ like this until someone’s made it all the way around the class. It’s a great way to keep kids on their toes and get ‘em thinkin’ fast!

5. Charades

Now, let me tell ya, charades might be one of the most fun games you can play with kids in the classroom. It’s real simple. You give the students a word or phrase related to what you’re reviewin’, and they gotta act it out for their team to guess. It don’t matter if they’re good actors or not—it’s all about havin’ fun and gettin’ those brains workin’. Plus, it gets ‘em outta their seats and movin’ around, which is always a good thing when you’re stuck in a classroom for hours.

6. Create Your Own Review Game

If you wanna get real creative, you can have your students make up their own review games. I love this one! You can give ‘em some basic rules and let ‘em design the game themselves. For instance, you can make a game board (kinda like a Monopoly board, but simpler), and let the kids come up with their own questions and challenges. The students get excited about creatin’ their own games, and they end up learning a lot while they’re doin’ it. It’s a good way to get ’em involved and let their imagination run wild.

7. Password

If you’re lookin’ for somethin’ a little more old school, “Password” might be just the thing. This one works real well for reviewin’ vocabulary or terms. You divide the class into two or three teams, and one student from each team gets a word or phrase they have to describe to their team without usin’ the word itself. The team that guesses the most words right wins. It’s simple, but it sure gets the students thinkin’!

Well, there ya go, those are just a few games I reckon might spice up your class reviews. Each of ‘em is fun and easy to play, and they’ll help your students remember what they’ve been learnin’. All these games make review feel less like work and more like play—no matter if it’s history, math, or vocab. And the best part? The kids enjoy ‘em, and that’s what counts the most!

So, go ahead and try out a few of these ideas in your class. I’m sure you’ll have a great time, and the students will be happy to join in the fun too. Good luck!
