7 wonders game review
Hey there, y’all! Let me tell ya ’bout this here game, 7 Wonders. Folks been talkin’ ’bout it, sayin’ it’s somethin’ special. So, I got my hands on it, played it a bunch, and now I’m gonna spill the beans, tell ya what I think.
First off, this game, it ain’t like them old card games we used to play. It’s got these fancy cards and little boards and tokens, all colorful and whatnot. Took me a bit to figure it all out, mind you. But once I got the hang of it, it was smooth sailin’, mostly.
Now, the whole point of the game, as far as I can tell, is to build up your own little city, or civilization, or somethin’ like that. You get cards with pictures on ’em, like rocks and trees and soldiers and science stuff. You gotta pick which cards to keep and which ones to toss, kinda like sortin’ beans, but way more complicated.
- You got your military cards, for when you wanna rough up your neighbors, you know, just for fun.
- Then there’s the science cards, for all them brainy types who like to tinker and invent things.
- And don’t forget the resource cards, ’cause you need rocks and wood and all that to build stuff. Gotta have a good foundation, y’know?
- And then you got these civilian buildings and guild cards, fancy places that make your city look all important and bring in the money.
The way it works is, you get a hand of cards, pick one, then pass the rest to the next fella. Everybody does that at the same time, so there ain’t no waitin’ around, which is good. I ain’t got all day, y’know? Then you build whatever you can with the cards you kept, payin’ for ’em with your resources, or maybe borrowin’ from your neighbors if you’re feelin’ friendly, or maybe just takin’ it from ’em if you’re not.
One thing I really liked about 7 Wonders is how many folks can play. We had a whole mess of people over last Sunday, and everybody could join in. Even little Timmy, who usually just messes things up, he could play along. And it didn’t take forever, neither. We played a couple of games before supper, and nobody got bored or restless. That’s a big deal, let me tell ya.

The game plays smooth, you know? Nobody’s sittin’ around twiddlin’ their thumbs waitin’ for their turn. It’s like everybody’s doin’ their own thing at the same time, but it all comes together somehow. Reminds me of a barn raisin’, everybody pitchin’ in to get somethin’ done. Only this time, you’re raisin’ a city instead of a barn.
Now, I ain’t no expert on games or nothin’, but I’ve played my share of ’em. And this 7 Wonders, it’s got somethin’ special. It makes you think, but not so hard that your head hurts. You gotta plan ahead, but you also gotta be ready to change your plans on the fly, ’cause your neighbors might do somethin’ unexpected. Keeps you on your toes, that’s for sure.
The game also has these wonder boards. Each player gets one, and it shows a famous building or landmark from the ancient world. These wonders give you special abilities and points, and they are different for each player, which adds a lot of variety. You have to decide how to best use your wonder’s power and when to build each stage of it. It’s like building your own little monument to show off to the world, or maybe just to your neighbor across the table.
And the points, oh boy, there’s lots of ways to get points. You get points for military victories, for science discoveries, for civilian buildings, for your fancy guilds, and of course, for your wonder. At the end of the game, you add up all your points, and whoever has the most, well, they win. Simple as that.
I’ve heard some folks say the game is complicated, but I don’t think so. Sure, there’s a lot of symbols and stuff to learn at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty straightforward. It’s like learnin’ to bake a pie. The first time you do it, you might mess it up a bit, but after a few tries, you can do it with your eyes closed. Well, maybe not with your eyes closed, but you get the idea.
And let me tell you, winnin’ ain’t everything, but it sure feels good. Especially when you beat that know-it-all nephew of mine, who thinks he’s so smart. Showed him a thing or two, I did. But even if you don’t win, it’s still fun. You get to build somethin’ cool, and you get to spend time with your friends and family, and that’s what really matters, ain’t it?
Now, would I recommend this 7 Wonders game? You bet your bottom dollar I would. It’s fun, it’s fast, and it’s got somethin’ for everyone. Whether you’re a young’un or an old-timer like me, you’ll find somethin’ to enjoy. So go on, give it a try. You might just surprise yourself.
Overall, if I had to give this game a rating, I’d give it a good ol’ thumbs up, maybe even two. It’s a solid game, a good time, and that’s all there is to it. So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ new to play, somethin’ that’ll keep you entertained for a while, give 7 Wonders a shot. You won’t be disappointed, I reckon.
